On Friday the 25th of July, I joined a few other JMSS physics students to attend the University of Melbourne's public lecture on quantum physics.
As a part of their July lectures in physics, Dr Danielle Holmes used her hour of lecture time to cover everything from the history of quantum physics to how it is being used today. Despite the time constraints, the lecture managed to cover many complex areas of quantum physics, such as the double slit experiment, in a very accessible manner. She even conducted an experiment on the day, demonstrating how light can act as a particle to ionise certain materials.
Dr Holmes finished the lecture by talking about quantum computing, her area of study, which helped emphasise the possibilities that quantum physics provides to society. Overall, it was a very insightful lecture that ignited nuclear fusion levels of passion inside us all.

The senior boys (Adyhan, Joaquin, Kevin (Pasindu), Haojin and Wajih) competed in the regional table tennis tournament.
They came as a strong runner-up to Glen Waverly.
They played well through the tournament with long games and few breaks and we are very proud of their achievements.
They are continuing the table tennis spirit at school by assisting with selecting and training the new intermediate team, showing great leadership and community spirit.
