Assistant Principal's Report
Term 3: Assistant Principal's Report
We’re pleased to share that Term 3 has started smoothly. It’s been great to see our students settling in well and approaching the semester with resilience and enthusiasm. Well done to all students who participated in the Athletics carnival in such challenging weather conditions.
Term 3 can be particularly demanding, especially for our senior students as they face key assessment tasks and begin preparing for final exams. At South Oakleigh College, we remain committed to supporting the wellbeing and growth of every student. Our Wellbeing Team is always available to provide care, advice, and resources to help students manage both academic and emotional challenges. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the team.
Attendance
A reminder to parents that daily attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and developmentally.
School participation maximises life opportunities for children and young people by providing them with education and support networks. School helps children to develop important skills, knowledge and values that set them up for further learning and participation in their community. School helps them to make the most of life opportunities. A child missing one day a fortnight will miss four weeks in a year, and more than a year of school by Year 10. It is important that children develop regular attendance habits at an early age. If you need support with engaging your child at school, please do not hesitate to contact the College on 95792322.
2026 Subject Selection
Students in Years 9-11 have now made their first round of selections for subjects in 2026. Shortly, these students will participate in Course Counselling where they will reflect on their learning achievements in Middle School and pathway to Senior School with a member of the School Leadership Team. Students will reflect on their subject choices considering their Semester Report, engagement in class, Morrisby interviews and pathways to VCE or the Vocational Major. All students are encouraged to read the subject books when completing these selections.
Student Led Conferences
Student-Led Conferences are coming up in Week 5 on Wednesday 20th August from 11am – 6pm. Bookings will be open through COMPASS on Tuesday 12 August. Further details with instructions will be provided through Compass.
Student-led conferences are a valuable opportunity for your child to take an active role in their learning and share their progress with you. By leading the conversation, your child develops important skills such as self-reflection, responsibility, and confidence. These conferences give students a strong voice in their education, allowing them to discuss their achievements, challenges, and goals in a meaningful way.
