Father's Day
Thanks to all the families who came along yesterday. It was great to see so many families sharing in something that both people enjoyed. Once I thought most had left, I wondered into the Chess room and found many focused people engaging in some keenly contested games of Chess. Our hope is that may provide some new opportunities for activities to do with your children at home. I wish all fathers, grand fathers and father figures a happy father's day.
Confirmation
Congratulations to all the students who made their Confirmation last week. I know hearing from the Parish last night at the Pastoral Council meeting, they were very proud of how the reverence the students displayed and how well prepared they were. Thanks to Pauline for her leadership in this space along with Kylie and Lea who assisted preparing students. The message from Pope Leo is to build bridges, and I feel that we are building a stronger bridge with the Parish to be truly one community.
Term Three Completion
A reminder: The School Term finishes on September 19th at 1pm. This and the second term early finish provide the Time In Lieu for our teachers work at Parent Teacher Conferences. I thank all the families who came along and showed your commitment to your child's education. Research shows that a parent taking a positive and genuine interest in their child's education will improve their academic results. Our attendance at Parent Teacher Meetings has continued to improve over the past two years, so thank you. Any family that couldn't make it, and we understand many families have commitments on different nights, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher to make a time to talk.
Subway Orders
Again a reminder that all subway orders must be in on Thursday morning at 10am. The orders are delivered to school at 10:45am Friday.
Sport: A lesson in itself
Our senior students competed in many sports this week, Gala Day and Hoop Time. Our students are really developing in this space. We have it tough competing against much bigger schools. There are schools now in Cranbourne and Clyde who have 1200-1500 students. Sport though as known as a great indicator of your true personality. Last Thursday, we had a professional basketballer Nyah take a session with our Year 3-6 Girls, as part of a Government initiative to have more female participation in sport. Her message at the end was compete hard, compete fair, be a great teammate by make others better and carry yourself with dignity. It was a great message and I am proud of our students who are learning to compete harder, but all whilst being people who will be remembered by opponents as tough to play, but great humans.
At the end of the day, that what life is about, improve yourself, be your best, compete hard, but be a great human to others.
Footy Day
Next Wednesday we will have a footy day. Students can were their favourite teams colours, and it can be from any football code - Soccer, AFL, Rugby Union, Rugby League). The students will be getting a AFL clinic with St Kilda AFLW players, along with a sausage sizzle. A note was sent home on Operoo.
