Downhill Snowsports Program

Day 2
Day 2

The Downhill Snowsports Program has had two successful day trips to Falls Creek so far. The first day started foggy and wet, but improved throughout the day. Our most recent outing began with a solid overnight freeze, creating fast and firm conditions across the mountain. Groomed runs were the standout early in the day, offering smooth skiing and riding for all ability levels. As the day progressed, the weather became increasingly moody, with strong winds and a threatening sky adding to the alpine atmosphere.

Despite the changing weather, it was another successful and enjoyable day on snow. Students continued to demonstrate the Mount Beauty Secondary College values of kindness, confidence, and respect, both on the slopes and in their interactions with staff and volunteers.

A huge thank you to our parent volunteers; your support is essential to the success of this program. We truly couldn’t run it without you.

It’s been fantastic to see students skiing and snowboarding confidently, and making good decisions based on their skill levels and the conditions.

Reminders for Our Next Snow Day – Wednesday 13 August

All students must bring the required equipment as outlined in the equipment list.

This includes:

  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Gloves
  • Helmet
  • Eye protection (goggles or sunglasses)

Students without this essential gear will not be permitted to ski or snowboard, as safety is our top priority.

We look forward to another great day on the mountain!

Model UN Conference

Last week, Stevie, Makayla, and William from Year 12, along with Chloe from Year 11, took part in the Indonesian Language Model United Nations Conference held at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership in Melbourne. This unique event, run by the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) in collaboration with the Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers’ Association (VILTA), invites students to engage with global issues through the lens of diplomacy and international cooperation — entirely in Indonesian.

This year’s focus was on the issue of stopping violence against women and girls. Representing the country of New Zealand, our students took part in passionate and thoughtful debates alongside peers from many schools around Melbourne. Having participated in the event last year, they brought added confidence and experience. As a result, they were active contributors and engaged thoughtfully in the discussions throughout the day.
