Combined Student\Staff Meeting

The combined Student/Staff meeting is always one of my favourite staff meetings because I love it when students and staff get to work together in a meaningful way. At the staff meeting we unpacked the Attitudes to School Survey, celebrated the positives and analysed areas for future improvement. I love how confidently the students present their thoughts and suggestions.  Over the next few months we will be working to implement the suggested changes so we can continue  to improve our results.

The survey data is summarised into three broad categories, Learning, Experience at School and Student Health and Wellbeing. These broad categories are divided into smaller subsets. Students in grades 4-6 answer a range of different questions which then provide the percentages which make up our data set.

It is difficult to provide all the data in an effective way in the newsletter but we are happy to provide a copy of the complete survey data for any parents who are interested in seeing the full report.

Some of the highlights of the 2025 data include:

  • 92% believe they are provided with a differentiated learning challenge

  • 97% believe their teacher has high expectations of their success

  • 88% have a positive attitude to attendance

  • 81% report a sense of confidence in their learning

  • 83% report a sense of connectedness

  • 94% report a sense of inclusion

  • 89% say they have an advocate at school

  • 73% say we are managing bullying well

  • 80% report respect for diversity.

Areas of concern include:

  • only 16% of students report high levels of resilience

  • 27% report they have experienced racism in the last term

  • 33% report they have experienced racism in the last year.

These areas of concern are ones we will continue to prioritise at school through our different wellbeing programs, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relations, Peaceful Kids, Wellbeing Clubs. But, it is a partnership in which parents are equal partners and we will need your support for what happens at school and your efforts at home to help boost student resilience and understanding the importance of always showing respect to everyone!

Racism in Schools

At Lalor East, we value the diversity of culture, ethnicity and faith of all our students. We are proud of our diversity and everyone is welcome at our school.

Unfortunately, over recent weeks we have been made aware of some racist comments and behaviours that are not in line with our school values. This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at our school.

Celebrating the diversity of our community makes us stronger, kinder and innovative. We are committed to ensuring that students from all backgrounds feel accepted, supported and are empowered to learn.

Our school has taken steps to ensure the school is a place free of racism and where everyone feels welcome, respected and supported.

To achieve our values and aims, everyone at our schol plays an important role, and we are writing to ask for your support. We ask that you support your child to:

  • understand that we celebrate diversity and multicultural inclusion
  • understand the importance of everyone at school being treated with respect
  • understand that our school takes racism very seriously
  • understand that the school will support students if they experience or see their classmates experience this racism

Your partnership in reinforcing these values at home will significantly help create a more respectful and inclusive environment at school.

For more information, please see Racism: talking with children and teens, Raising Children Network.

If your child has experienced racism or other unfair treatment, our staff are here to help. Talk to your child's homegroup teacher in the first instance.

If you don’t feel comfortable reporting the incident to school, you can call or email the Report Racism hotline. The Department of Education runs the Report Racism hotline. It is available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) on 1800 722 476 or via email at report.racism@education.vic.gov.au.

If you need an interpreter to call the school, please use the details available at: Guide for Families: How to use an interpreter to contact your school  at:

2025 LEPS Fathers Day Stall

The 2025 LEPS Fathers Day Stall was a hit again with our students.  The stall was held on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September in our STEM room.  We hope all of our Dad's and special people had a wonderful Fathers Day, and enjoyed receiving gifts that the students spent alot of time browsing and selecting at the stall with their special person in mind.

The stall raised a profit of $714.59, which goes directly to our LEPS Library Redevelopment project.

Special thanks to all of our amazing volunteers who assisted to organise/order the stock, set up the stall and run the stall across the two days. We couldn't do it without your help:

Crystal Irineos (Ivie and Theo), Emma Thomason (Hannah and Patrick), Amanda Bull (Nash, Chase and Bonnie), Aliscia Rech (Chloe), Mr Van (Jack and William), Deka Mohamud (Marwah), Stephanie Coralluzzo (Oliver), Thao Thang (Nam), and Robyn from our office.

Breaking News - New Outsourced Lunch Order Service beginning in Term 4!

We are very excited to announce the trial of a new outsourced lunch order service for the school starting in term 4! We are partnering with Team Kids to offer the TK Tuckshop lunch delivery program at LEPS. The students will be very excited about this as they have been sad that the canteen closed several years ago.

We will be offering the lunch order service on Thursday's. The menu includes a range of flexible lunch options including wraps, sushi, rice paper rolls, wraps, rolls, pizzas, mac and cheese and bureks. There are different lunch boxes which include a snack or a drink. I am looking forward to not having to make my lunch on a Thursday and can't wait to try the pancake box or chicken pita box!

Orders wll be individually packed for each class and will be delivered to the school at 10:50am ready for lunch.

Parents can order via the Spriggy Schools app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.  Orders close at 8:00am each Thursday morning in term .

We need at least twenty orders each week to be able to continue the service.

Last Day of Term 3

Friday 19 September marks the end of term 3! School will finish at 1:45pm so make sure you add the time to your diary so you remember the earlier finishing time.

I am not sure where the time has gone this term but know everyone is definitely ready for a break. There has been lots of illness amongst students and staff over the last few weeks. A holiday to relax and build up our immunity again is definitely in order so we are ready for a busy term 4.

Stay safe everyone, spend lots of time outside playing in the sun or rain, read some books, play some board games.

School resumes at 9:00am on Monday 6 October.
