Foundation Classroom News

Weeks 4 and 5 have been as busy as usual in Foundation classroom! We've been reading, spelling, writing, counting and practising all the other skills that we have been developing.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we have been learning about the properties of the materials we will be using to build our bridge. These include playdough, aluminum foil, wood and fabric.
Experiments
Being like scientists, we undertook some experiements. We made our predictions and then tested them to see how accurate we were.
- Marbles - I can predict how many marbles it will take to fill a container.
2. Play Dough - I can roll a ball of play dough to be the same length as a ruler.
3. Aluminum Foil - I can predict how many sheets of foil it will take to make a ball the same size as a large marble.
4. Paper Clips - I can predict how many paper clips it will take to make a chain the same length as a ruler.
5. Blocks - I can predict how many blocks I will need to make a line the same length as the red square on the mat.
Making playdough
Its always fun to get our hands dirty! We made some play dough to use when we are constructing our bridges. We think that we could use play dough like cement to keep the bridges stable.
StepsWeb
Students have been enjoying using our new literacy app, StepsWeb. Students complete 20 activites per week based on phonemic awareness, reading and counting. We aim to use the app each day. Students can acceess StepsWeb at home: contact Pauline for login details if you are interested.
