FIRE Carrier - Friends Igniting Reconciliation in Education
The FIRE Carrier program began in 2009 as an initiative of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry to support reconciliation in Victorian Catholic Schools. A FIRE Carrier promotes respect, fairness and inclusion for First Nations Peoples.
On Thursday we commissioned our new Year 4 FIRE Carriers - students who are committed to promoting reconciliation and making our school culturally safe and inclusive for all.
We learned about the importance of carrying on this message, even when friends or peers may have doubts, and being open to learning about our First Nations friends' culture and history.
Aboriginal Education Leader at Catholic Education Sandhurst, Michael Chisholm, blessed and welcomed our latest FIRE Carriers at St. Joseph's. 41 students proudly chose to take up this opportunity, making a first step in their student leadership journeys.
