PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. We encourage families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey began on Monday 18th August and concludes on Friday 19th September.  A link to the survey has been distributed via email to the random selection of 30 percent of families chosen to complete this.

Professional Practice Day

As part of the Victorian Government Schools Agreement, teachers are allocated a Professional Practice Day which is student free.  This is scheduled to take place on Thursday 4th September.

NAPLAN results

Year 7 and 9 students and parents/guardians will have received a copy of their NAPLAN results including high growth certificates for year 9 students who have achieved growth rates in the top 25%.  This growth is in comparison to other students who had the same result in year 7, it doesn’t refer to which students are the most academically capable.

I provided our School Council with a summary of the results at our last meeting on Wednesday 13th August.

I am pleased to share that reporting indicates that a greater percentage of our students are achieving the 'exceeding' and 'strong' proficiency ratings in the majority of the literacy indicators of reading, spelling and grammar at year 9 in comparison to similar schools and network schools.  Our writing results while still pleasing were slightly lower than similar schools.  Our results in numeracy for students achieving the 'exceeding' and 'strong' proficiency ratings at year 9 also reflected that a greater percentage of our students are achieving the 'exceeding' and 'strong' proficiency ratings in comparison to similar schools and network schools.

Indonesian Trip

Year 10 Indonesian Language students and three staff members leave for Yogyakarta Indonesia on Sunday 7th September and return on Friday 19th September.  I am sure that the group will have a great time immersing themselves in the Indonesian culture and I look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return.

Year 9 Rubicon Camp

20 Year Nine students will be heading to Rubicon Outdoor Education Camp from Monday 8th – Friday 12th September.

Intentions for 2026

If students are not returning to Oberon High School in 2026, can families contact the school and speak with one of the Assistant Principals to confirm this.  We are in the process of planning classes and advertising further staffing requirements for the 2026 school year and movements of students can significantly affect this planning.

End of Term 3

The last day of term is Friday 19th September and we will be finishing at 2.30pm.  All buses have been alerted to this change.
