The Solar System.
The Solar System.

It's been wonderful sharing our Earth Sciences curriculum with the Foundation students, getting our hands in the garden and exploring the notion of being guardians of our planet ~ which relates beautifully with our RE unit on Creation.

This week we learnt a great song about our Solar System and the planets found in it. Thanks to Audrey for bringing in her book on the Planets! The students are preparing to sing the song (with action and movements) and will present it at our Assembly later in the term (Thursday, 11th September ~ Week 8).

Students were given the opportunity to grow their own plants, flowers and herbs from seed. We spoke about the things necessary for life on earth ~ water and sun, and how our actions affect the world in which we live.  We planted bulbs in the garden, as well as planting some tomato plants in our School Garden Boxes. The idea is for us to have a celebration at the end of the term with the tomatoes.....PIZZA TIME!

Year 1

Scienceweek has proven to be so much fun in year 1. We did an experiment with skittles that the students loved! They learnt that when you add warm water to lollies that the sugar dissolves and so does the colour, causing it is run into the middle of the plate and make a rainbow. We also did it with cold water and it did the same but slowly. Wait until Friday and we make a rocket!!

We have also been learning about the Sun. We made our own sun and have added this to our display. AMAZING!!

Year 2/3

Hi families,

It has been another fun week at school. To celebrate Science Week we went to the Library and a real Author and Zoologist read us books and we created bug hotels. It was a really fun day. Please don't forget that next week it is BOOK WEEK YAY!

Year 3/4

More writing pieces about Scienceworks

On the 5th of August, we went to Scienceworks, it was so fun. We got to see how a spaceship works and we went to the planetarium and got to see Mars, the moon and the Earth. It was so fun, I loved it.  Afterwards we went outside to play and eat lunch and then we went on the bus back home/school.

My favourite thing about Scienceworks was when I was racing Cathy Freeman and I beat her two times, once at school and once with my aunty. Aunty- 1:36, School- 1:99

The Planetarium was very fun and felt weird.

Our  Excursion To Scienceworks

Today on the 5th of Aug, Grade 2,3,4,5 and 6 went to Scienceworks. It was REALLY GOOD! First, we went to the Energy Lab. And in the Energy Lab, the person in charge showed us how rockets work. After that we did the Cathy Freeman race, which a lot of students loved. My sister and I raced three times. First round I won, second round it was a tie and last round my sister cheated! It was GREAT! Then we went to the planetarium. It was REALLY FUN!  By Tazlyn

On Tuesday we went to Scienceworks. The first thing was the science show, where we did a thing where we saw how to see how to get to Mars (I helped). After that we went to eat, there were other schools with us.Then we went to a place with a bunch of activities like the Cathy Freeman race, I did it with my best friend Aisha. Then we went to eat, I sat with my friends to eat. Then my class went back to the activities. We went to the planetarium and we saw Tycho’s trip to Mars and a talk about space. Did you know that one of the closest planet is Mars.  By Aylah

A Bug Hotel - Year 2/3 and Year 3/4

This week the students went to the Preston Library for Science Week. The students heard about the big Bug Hotel that has been built for the bugs at Bundoora Park Farm. As part of the visit the students were able to learn how to make a bug hotel and today at school we finished our very own Bug Hotels.
