Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community,
A Prayer for Creation and Gratitude
Loving God,
Thank you for the beautiful earth, the stars above,
and the wonders of the universe.
Help us to see Your hand in all creation and
to care for the world You have lovingly made.
Fill our hearts with gratitude and peaceful contentment,
so we may live with kindness, wonder, and respect each day.
Amen.
This Term in Learning
This term, students are discovering the wonders of Earth and Space Science through Inquiry learning, helping us all see how amazing our world and universe really are. In Religious Education, we’re reflecting on Creation, how God lovingly made everything around us. These lessons encourage us to be grateful for God’s beautiful creation and to find happiness in the order and wonder of the world He provides.
Our students are also enjoying class novels that connect with these ideas, making learning even more fun and meaningful.
Teachers have prepared detailed Term 3 Overviews, which will be sent home via email next week.
As we continue learning, let’s keep growing thankful hearts and peaceful minds, appreciating both the beautiful earth and the small miracles in our daily lives.
Book Week – ‘Book an Adventure’
A huge thank you to our amazing Rosetta for organising this year’s exciting Book Week, starting Monday, 18th August. Please see Library News for all the details about the fun activities and adventures planned.
We kicked off our Book Week celebrations today with a wonderful presentation from author Dianne Psaila, creator of Jack’s Adventure series. She was engaging, inspiring, and full of wonderful stories to share. Her books are all about teddy bears, so our children brought along their favourite teddies for a whole school Teddy Bear Picnic in the multipurpose room. It was such a fun and heartwarming event.
On Thursday, 21st August, we’ll have our Book Week Dress Up Day! Come dressed as your favourite book, a beloved character, or something inspired by the theme ‘Book an Adventure’.
And from Tuesday, 26th August to Tuesday, 2nd September, don’t miss the Scholastic Book Fair at Sacred Heart — a perfect chance to discover new stories to take home.
We can’t wait to celebrate the magic of reading with everyone!
Principal Network Conference
Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August
As part of my role as Acting Principal at Sacred Heart, I will be attending the 2025 Australian Catholic Education Conference at the Cairns Convention Centre. I want to sincerely thank our leadership team and staff for their encouragement and support during this time. I am confident that Sacred Heart will be in excellent hands with Marty (Principal), Kate, Rosetta, and Ann leading in my absence.
Cristina in the office will be available to assist with day-to-day matters, and I will continue to monitor and respond to emails throughout the week.
A special part of the conference is the Kuranda Experience, a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of previous Network Professional Learning focuses, including Laudatory SI and Indigenous Perspectives. This experience also offers valuable time for collegiality and networking with colleagues from across the network.
The conference program, themed ‘Hope, Anchored in Faith’, will explore the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education through three key areas: Faith, Excellence, and Access. It features a wide range of speakers, presentations, and workshops on Catholic identity and mission, learning and teaching, leadership and governance, parent and community engagement, resourcing, advocacy, and more.
I look forward to bringing back new insights and inspiration to continue strengthening our Sacred Heart community.
