Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

Firstly, can I thank all parents who brought in a “little something” for a staff morning tea this week. It was greatly appreciated by all staff and there are certainly some great cooks out there!

The past fortnight has seen much activity as our orientation program has been in full swing. Our year 10 and 11 students have been able to get a “head start” on their courses for 2025 by familiarising themselves with VCAA study designs, background material and assessment styles. All students will have some tasks to complete over the break to better prepare themselves for the 2025 academic year. These tasks are to be finished by day 1 of term 1, which is Thursday January 30, 2025.30, 2025.

Year 12 Results

Students completing Year 12 subjects were able to access their results last week. We hope all of our year 12 students have achieved results that match or exceed their expectations.  A breakdown of results has been published on compass and once again the school has received some amazing results. For the first time this schools raw median study score was above 36 and this was recognised in the media as can be seen by the snippet below. As JMSS students generally do the harder VCE STEM subjects this school places more weight on other data such as the scaled study score median which is yet to be published. We are hoping this exceeds the scaled study score of 38 that was achieved last year.

A reminder that early offers for tertiary courses come out next week. Courses from all Victorian Universities will be offered to students that don’t require extra information to be submitted by students or involve an interview. These courses will not be offered until mid-January 2025. This includes Global Challenges, Medicine, folio-based courses etc.

Ms Carter our careers manager and Ms Veldsman in careers will be available for consultation on December 23rd and appointments can be booked online. Please look out for the recent newsfeed from the Careers team for detailed instructions on how to book in for a GoogleMeet online appointment on the 23rd December.

2024 University of Melbourne Extension Graduation

On 5 December 2024, Ms Vida represented JMSS at the 2024 University of Melbourne Extension Program Graduation to celebrate the achievements of all Year 12 students across the state who studied a University of Melbourne extension subject in 2024.

JMSS students completed many first year University-level subjects in 2024, alongside their Year 12 studies. Subjects studied included Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

It was pleasing to see the excellent results that JMSS students achieved.

Huge congratulations to Luna Marko who achieved the highest result of all students enrolled in Extension Mathematics winning the subject award.  Some of the JMSS students graduating at this event can be seen in the photo below with Ms Vida.

I would like to wish all members of the JMSS community a safe and relaxing festive period and look forward to seeing you all in 2025.
