Hope - 2025 Theme

Our theme for the school year is 'Hope'.

Pope Francis has decreed that 2025 will be a year of Jubilee, a holy year which happens every 25 years in the Catholic Church. The Bible tells us that Hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us”. This year we reflect on questions like:

  • What kind of things do you hope for?
  • What do you hope to be when you grow up?
  • What do you hope the world will be like in the future?

Opening School Year and Staff Commissioning Mass

On Thursday we celebrated our Opening School Year and Staff Commissioning Mass with the whole school. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to gather as a community, celebrate in hope for the year ahead, and to commission our staff for 2025. We are so proud of our students for the reverence and openness to participate - Fr Alan commented specifically on the students' lovely singing!

2025 Religious Education

Our teachers work hard to integrate Religious Education (RE) and Inquiry topics where possible. By working under one topic/theme in both areas, we establish stronger connections and deeper learning for the students. A key aspect of curriculum design in a Catholic school is to challenge learners to explore and consider deep questions and big ideas.

An inquiry based approach to learning invites student voice in shaping their curriculum. Learning is driven by the areas of need, interests and wonderings of the students in that class and grade level. We will continue our work with Kate Korber from The Inquiry Project to further develop our work in this area.

For 2025, the term topics will be as follows:

Term 1 - Community

RE - Church and Community

Inquiry - Student Wellbeing, Engagement and Love of Learning (SWELL) and History

Term 2 - Our World

RE - God, Religion and Life

Inquiry - Biological Science

Term 3 - Connecting to Others

RE - Prayer, Liturgy and Sacrament

Inquiry - Geography

Term 4 - Change

RE - Morality and Justice

Inquiry - Health (Prep) & Chemical Science (Grade 1-6)

Term 1 - Community

The concept of community can be explored at different levels; school community, local community, sporting clubs, countries etc. All students will explore the idea of what it means to be part of a community.

Whilst exploring the features of communities and how we all work together in harmony, teachers will draw links with history and how this has changed and worked over time. This topic lends itself well to our SWELL (Student Wellbeing, Engagement and Love of Learning) term. As we settle into a new school year, we learn to make new friends, how to work in our new classrooms, and what we need to do for one another to feel happy and safe at school.
