Year 8/9 Art

Secondary Art
We would like to introduce ‘Elenoa Telefoni, our new secondary art teacher working with Years 6 and 7. Mrs Telefoni is from Tonga and has lived in New Zealand many years where she taught at Tamaki College in Auckland. She has come to Australia with her family of five children who have all settled into the local community. When describing her passions in Art education, Mrs Telefoni says that “I aim to foster theology in terms of gender equality. My driving force is to support young leaders through the challenges they face as teenagers and to achieve their fullest potential. I believe that analyising the world and the social cultural environment with an artists perspective can allow students to see the world as it is and express their own thoughts. As a Tongan woman my cultural identity is a valuable asset to empower our students at Truganina College”.
Elenoa Telefoni, Linda Sadlier, Samarpreet Singh, Ermias Mentai Jimie, Sehaj Dhaliwal and Nathan Joseph proudly showing their learning this term.
Year 7 and 8 students have investigated print artists Andy Warhol and Reg Mombasa to undertake their own print making artworks. Students have prepared a design and carved out their image considering line, texture, colour and background. In the image above Linda Sadlier demonstrates her printing technique to create a three colour reduction print.
Below are works in progress….
Sehaj Dhaliwal Arshan Mazhar
A collaborative print by Year 8 students Cholok Matur Magol, Mahi Patel, Dellas Kaufis, Darnell Amiyuanai, Prachi Prachi, Ben Pale, Risha Singh, Kayashini Devakumar and Kelsy Reddy
Reflection from Kelsy Reddy, “The carving process was interesting as you took part of the image away and had to consider the background. I really liked printing as you could make a pattern when you made multiple prints of your design”.
Ceramics
Year 8 students studied the work of Australian artist Juz Kitson and investigated shapes and forms of coral for inspiration to create their ceramic sculptures. What has brought the projects to life is the final step of glazing. Students experimented with layering colours before the work was fired a second time to achieve the colourful gloss you see in this ceramic work.
Fresh from the kiln, Year 9 students have completed ceramic work created under the theme of Surrealism. Students have been excited to take home their sculptures. We hope the sculptures are placed somewhere safe and special to be appreciated for years to come.
Year 9 students Jj John and Junior Paleti with their rap artist sculptures.
