Writing for a Literary Journal

During Unit 2 Area of Study 2 (the text in its context), students wrote on the significance of a passage of their choice from the serialised novel, North and South, in the style of an exam Section A Question 1 response. By sharing their responses and comparing the interpretation they formed, students compiled their writing into small-scale journals not dissimilar to academic literary articles. 

Many of their compositions (linked below and very interesting reading) apply a Marxist or Feminist literary perspective to the text, illuminating Mrs Elizabeth Gaskell’s commentary on class conflict and gendered social expectations in the wake of the Industrial Revolution.
