This semester Year 9 students in 9F-9Z researched inclusion in Naarm/Melbourne through the lens of a topic of choice. The topics chosen this semester included architecture, science, arts and entertainment, sustainability and food.
The intention of this project is for students to engage in deep learning through examining citizenship and engaging in critical and creative thinking, to design collaborative research in the city. In learning from the past and observing the city today, students build valuable knowledge about themselves and the diverse perspectives of people who live and work in Naarm/Melbourne.
At night we experienced the city from the Melbourne Skydeck, nearly 300 metres high after enjoying dinner and gelato.
Groups presented their project in a Night in Naarm/Melbourne Expo at the school to a small parent crowd. The presentations were impressive and we congratulate all students, many of who were nervous but enthusiastic. Next year we encourage the current Year 8 families to take the opportunity to visit the expo and see the hard work that went into this project.
A big thank you to our Geography team who were instrumental in the creativity and smooth running of this project: Ms Frackowski, Ms Huang, and Ms Lin.
A new inquiry unit in the Year 7 History Curriculum introduced students to the question, “What would life be like in Ancient Times?”, and analysed this inquiry question by investigating a chosen society and topic of investigation. Students then analysed this question, investigating a chosen society, and curated museum displays to showcase their work.
Parents and our school community toured our rooms which were converted to museums for the evening. From Ancient Egyptian social structure, Ancient Roman daily life, Ancient Indian Fashion to Ancient Chinese Warfare and Ancient Greek mythology, we were taken back in time to imagine what life could have been like in Ancient times.
A highlight for many students was to showcase their work to their parents, and inviting parents into their classrooms to see where they work!
A big thank you to our Year 7 History team: Mr Millot, Ms Templeman, Mr Jenner, Ms Kim, and Ms Frackowski for making this unit come to life, and the biggest thank you to our parents and families for supporting children through the unit.
