Congratulations to Jimmy H (12CFL), Max X (Y11CFL) and Zichen W (Y10CFL) who represented Box Hill High School in the 2024 CLTAV Writing and Speaking competition on Friday 25 October 2024.
They chose a given topic, wrote their speech and presented it on the spot against a wide range of private, Catholic and government schools in Victoria. We are proud to see that Jimmy H won first prize, Max X won second prize, and Zichen W won the merit award. What fantastic results!
From Jimmy H:
I feel very honoured to be able to represent our school in the Victorian Chinese First Language Writing and Speaking Competition. I am also very grateful for my Chinese teacher, Mrs Hong Lin, for giving me this valuable opportunity to improve my speaking skills and ability to improvise on the spot. It was with great excitement that I arrived at the University of Melbourne, and during the writing stage of the competition, when I saw the topics of the presentations, I found that one of them was relatively similar to my detailed study in Year12 CFL this year, which explores about the importance that people should hold on to their hearts. As the speech contest progressed, the contestants ahead of me all gave very impressive speeches, which made me feel even more apprehensive with my oral presentation. When I stood on the stage with a nervous heart, I thought back to the encouragement from my teachers, parents and classmates, I felt incredibly relaxed at once. I presented my speech with confidence, and I was so involved in my speech that I felt like time was flying by and soon my speech was coming to an end. In the prize giving session, I was so surprised to win first place. I firmly believe that this is related to my oral presentation SAC in Year 12 CFL this year, which effectively developed my expressive skills and improved my writing skills. From this experience, I believe that all the hard work put in will not be in vain and will eventually help us to succeed at some point in the future.
