Junior School - end of term wrap-up

by Mr Nic Barca, Head of Junior School

What a fantastic year it’s been in the Junior School! From camps and guest speakers to excursions, transition programs, and home group activities, our students have had so many opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun. Seeing them finish the year on such a high note has been the best part of all.

Our Year 7 students kicked off the year with their first big adventure at Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza. They tackled challenges, built teamwork skills, and formed friendships that will last for years. Another highlight was their involvement in the UR Strong program, where they learned how to build meaningful friendships and develop essential communication skills. These experiences have set them up for success in the years ahead.

For our Year 8s, this year was all about connection. Their Gratitude Wall gave them a chance to reflect and focus on the positives, and Brainstorm Productions delivered a powerful message about kindness, respect, and resilience. Their camp at The Summit was a standout moment, a celebration of their time in Junior School and a chance to look ahead to new opportunities.

Across the year, we’ve welcomed incredible guest speakers and workshops, giving students the chance to grow not just as learners but as people, fostering confidence, belonging, and important life skills.

A big thank you to our amazing teachers. Their creativity, adaptability, and care for every student have been invaluable. From running engaging classes to checking in with families, their hard work has made this year so successful.

To our Junior School leadership team, Emily Wilkinson and Bec Kertes, your dedication to leading the Year 7 and Year 8 cohorts has been nothing short of inspiring. Whether it’s guiding students through challenges or organising activities, you’ve gone above and beyond, and I’m excited to work with you both again next year.

Kiran, our Admin Extraordinaire, has been the quiet hero of the Junior School, keeping everything running smoothly. From camps to events, your initiative and attention to detail have made all the difference.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Minnie Zeng, our Assistant Junior School Coordinator. Over the past two years, Minnie has supported students with additional needs, built strong connections with EAL families, and been a constant source of positivity for everyone. Minnie is moving back into a full teaching role, and while we’ll miss her, we’re so grateful for all she’s done for our students and our team.

To our families, thank you for your ongoing support. I hope your summer break is filled with laughter, good food, and special moments together. Have a safe and happy holiday, and we’ll see you in 2025 for another incredible year in the Junior School!
