SLA Magic

In SLA 3, the children have been really engaged in learning about data in Mathematics and in deepening their understanding of text by connecting with the characters. Here are some of the learning from a few of our students and their reflection about the tasks:

George: In Mathematics, I like learning about dot plots. They are fun. In Literacy, I have enjoyed drawing the characters for our Open Mind Portraits.

Angelina: I really like finding the mode for our data in Mathematics. I like how we find the mode by sorting and ordering the numbers from smallest to largest. It was fun.

Cedric: In Mathematics I liked finding the mode and having to order all the numbers In Literacy, I enjoyed writing from someone else’s perspective for our Open Mind Portraits.

Sierra: In Mathematics, I enjoyed the dot plots because it was fund learning all about data. The Open Mind Portraits were fun and challenging because we had to think like we were someone else and we had to work out what they might look like and what their personality was like.

In SLA 2, the students have thoroughly enjoyed their learning in Literacy. They have been reading a class text with lots of discussion and thinking has been occurring. A focus has been on perspective and diving into the mind of the character using Open Minded Portraits.

Phoebe: “I enjoyed it because I had to put myself in someone else’s shoes and think like how they were thinking.”

Marley: “I enjoyed it because I could know how someone was feeling.”

Leo K: “I found it very interesting because it’s like from their perspective, it was surprising and new.”

In SLA1, we have been also learning about data and representing it in dot plots as well as interpreting types of data using mathematical language.

“In Mathematics this week we have been learning about symmetrical, uniform and skewed graphs to represent data. My favourite is symmetrical because it's easy to read” - Mikayla.

“In SLA1 we have been learning about dot plots. It was fun because we got to experience how to put data onto a dot plot” - Josh Z.
