The long-awaited reports have come in from our students. Here are two snippets of their journey of their relay experience.
On Wednesday 23rd we travelled to Sydney for the relay. The nerves were starting to kick in once we arrived in Sydney. We came this far but our main runner, Joshua Anderson, and starter of the relay team broke his arm so I had to take his place. Once we arrived, we unpacked. Stella and I went in the pool then it started to rain so we went inside and had a shower. We got dressed and we went to the RSL with Tracy and Phil (Stella's parents). I travelled down to Sydney with them. We had dinner and got back to the hotel and went to bed.
Arley Crowley.
We arrived at Sydney knowing that we were running against extremely fast runners. We found our seats and started watching the sprints. After a while Arley, Dexter, Stella, Luke (our coach) and I went over to the practise track to help Arley improve his starts off the blocks. We went for a warm-up and did some stretches. We practised the baton changeovers since it’s the most important part of the relay. Luke and Phil then took us over to the marshalling area and we waited for our group to be called. Now the nerves had set in, we were heading to our places now. Arley Crowley was the first runner, Dexter Urquhart was running second, Stella Mason running 3rd and Felix Urquhart running last. Once the race started we instantly realised that this race was going to be hard. Arley passed to Dexter, Dexter passed to Stella, Stella passed to Felix and after a hard race we came 3rd in our race and 10th in the state with a time of 1.00.77. Faster than what we had run in Newcastle.

Back in Barraba the students watched on with energy and enthusiasm and we as a school were so proud of their efforts. They represented our school with pride and professionalism. A further thank you again to Luke Urquhart for guiding and training these students through their journey.
Last Friday, 1st of November 2024, students and three teachers boarded the bus at 7am and headed off to Inverell to participate in the Armidale Diocese Touch Football Gala day. We arrived at 9am and prepared for our round games. The students were divided into three teams, the Barraba Rams, Barraba Lambs, Barraba Sheep. Each of the teams had 4 round games each with the teams scoring points for a win, loss or draw to get into the next rounds. All three teams played extremely well. The gala day has been cancelled over the past 3 years so it was great to be back playing Touch Football again. Here is a student’s perspective of the day.
At Inverell we had lots of fun playing with other schools in our diocese. We won some, we lost some but most of all we had fun. Playing against other teams was difficult but we pushed through it and had lots of fun. I wish I could do it again sometime soon so I can see some of my friends in Inverell from other schools like Tamworth, Manilla and Armidale.

We are also excited to announce that our Sporting Schools Grant will be assisting us in delivering a gymnastics program this term starting this Friday. We will have a full report on this activity next edition.
