Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)

Over the past two weeks students in years 1-6 will have completed the Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT). This is an adaptive testing platform for Mathematics and Reading. These tests are designed to assess students with a range of text types and skill areas to ensure that students’ reading comprehension and mathematical abilities are being captured.

The data collected from the assessment results allow teachers to identify points for learning and target their teaching to suit the individual or cohorts learning needs of students. The end of year PAT test also allows us to monitor learning growth as the tests are completed every year.

Cold Write

This week we also completed a Cold or Warm Write for kindergarten, these are writing assessments that occur five times a year. There are a variety of text types that are covered including recount, narrative and persuasive. The topic for term 4 was persuasive. The data collected from the piece of writing helps to track student progress in writing. All of the pieces of writing are marked against a level of The Australian Criterion Scale. Teachers then identify students' writing strengths and weaknesses so they can work collaboratively with the students to improve their writing, through goal setting.
