Foam Frenzy: Year 9’s Elephant Toothpaste Experiment Bubbles Over!

Our Year 9 Science students recently conducted the exciting Elephant Toothpaste experiment with impressive results! By varying the concentration settings, students created a range of foamy reactions, observing firsthand the effects of catalysts in chemical reactions. This hands-on experiment was both fun and educational, allowing students to engage with core chemistry concepts such as reaction rates, exothermic reactions, and safe handling of materials.

Experiments like this spark curiosity and build critical skills in observation, hypothesis testing, and analytical thinking, helping students connect theoretical science to real-world phenomena. Well done to Year 9 for their successful scientific exploration!

Agriculture: Sowing Seeds for Stronger Pastures!

Our Year 8 Agriculture students recently rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on, digging and preparing garden beds to sow seeds of lucerne, rye, and clover. With enthusiasm and teamwork, they worked the soil, spread seeds, and carefully raked over the beds to help ensure the seeds would grow successfully.

Learning about and planting pasture crops is invaluable for students, as pastures like lucerne, rye, and clover are foundational in Australian agriculture. These crops play a vital role in improving soil health, preventing erosion, and providing sustainable feed for livestock. Pastures also contribute to Australia’s agricultural resilience by enriching soil nutrients through natural nitrogen fixation, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. This activity gave students a firsthand understanding of sustainable farming practices and highlighted the importance of pastures in supporting our agricultural industry and environment. Their hard work and curiosity bring them closer to understanding the essential role of agriculture in Australia.
