Music Matters

Year 5 Choral Concert:  We are looking forward to seeing our Year 5 students perform the works they have learnt to sing in class this semester, accompanied by some of our talented Year 6 students and staff. The Junior Chorale will also be performing. This will take place tomorrow in the school gymnasium at 2:00 pm, with Year 6 students, staff and parents forming an appreciate audience. All welcome.

Performing Arts Captains: Thank you to the students who have applied for consideration for these important leadership positions. Interviews will be held early next week, with an announcement made at the Cocurricular Assembly in Week 3.

PAPA Meeting: Special thanks to our PAPA Committee and other interested performing arts parents who attended an online meeting earlier this week. There will be more information to come seeking assistance for the Christmas Twilight Concert BBQ.

Instrumental hire: Students who have hired instruments from the College for private home practice are asked to return them to the Performing Arts office by the end of Week 10. Should your son require his instrument for a school performance after this time, he is asked to bring it to the Music office afterwards.

Our Performing Arts Festival Week is an important event on our calendar as it gives all our private tuition students an opportunity to perform in front of a small audience. As daunting as this may seem to some students, it is an important aspect of learning to play an instrument and quite exciting to have an audience appreciate their home practice. You’ll be amazed at how much they lift playing pieces in front of some supportive listeners! My apologies for not being able to attend some of these evenings due to HSC marking commitments.

Performing Arts Festival

St Pius X College's annual Performing Arts Festival commences in Week 3.  All students who learn an instrument at the college are expected to participate in their tutor's concert. Tutors have been preparing their students for the upcoming concerts during Term 3.

Please note there will be no active supervision of students after school.  Students requiring supervision will need to go to the Academic Annexe in the Senior Resource Centre (Senior Library) prior to their performance time.

Parking will be available in the school grounds via Kirk Street after 4:30 pm.

Drama Matters

Oliver Twist Rehearsals

Rehearsals have begun in earnest, and I’m thrilled with the students' enthusiasm and professionalism. A special thanks to Mr Andrew Sarr (Producer and Singing Director), who launched our first rehearsal with a powerful workhouse chant, featuring original lyrics set to a new melody. This has added a unique energy to one of the play’s opening scenes.

Students, please be sure to check your rehearsal schedule, which was sent via email and provided in hard copy, to avoid missing any sessions. If you must miss a rehearsal for any reason, please email Ms Lindley as soon as possible.

Upcoming Drama Events

Week 4: 8 November - Costume Call for Oliver Twist cast – students should bring rehearsal blacks and any other pieces of costume agreed by Ms Lindley

Week 6: 20 November - Music & Drama Excursion to STC to see Dear Evan Hansen. Students will meet on the veranda at the start of P2 and head to the theatre with their teachers.

Week 6: 21 November at 5:30 pm - Drama Night Showcase – Elective Drama students will present their work. Students will stay after school to rehearse in the Sarto Centre.
