Year 9 Barron and Purton Camps
Our first two Year 9 Rites of Passage camps based on the Good Samaritan call to action: 'Go and do likewise', Luke 10: 25-37 occurred this week with Mr Steinman, Mrs Zervakos, Mr Naidoo, Mr Gibson, Ms Doyle and Mr Barnes engaging Barron and Purton Houses through the program of stand up paddle board and ocean swimming challenges, Aboriginal Cultural Awareness, surf lessons and environmental awareness, concern and actions.
Feedback from all students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, the rich learning shared and achieved with smaller house groups at our spectacular beach retreat setting at Workul Koo on Wamberal Beach.
The growth and social emotional learning demonstrated by Year 9 is proof positive of the capacity and ability of this cohort as they develop the sense of self, story, and optimism to resiliently overcome adversity and grow stronger.
2024 Mental Health Month Theme: ‘Let’s Talk About It’
In NSW, Mental Health Month is observed annually throughout October.
This year’s theme, 'Let’s Talk About It,' prompts us all to reflect on our mental health and overall wellbeing, irrespective of whether we’ve personally encountered mental illness. It emphasises the significance of maintaining good mental health in our daily lives and encourages a proactive approach to seeking help when necessary.
This term the Black Dog Institute will be talking to our students about the importance of positive mental health. Year 10 will also address this topic in the Term 5 program at the end of the year.
