Numeracy

Students will continue to build on their knowledge of Number and Place Value with a focus on Fractions. Our daily fluency practise will help students reinforce concepts already covered. Students will be introduced to Fractions where they are learning about equal parts and will be showing fractions in a variety of ways. In the area of Applied Mathematics, we will be learning about Mass and Capacity. Telling the time to the half-hour for Grade 1 and telling the time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to’ for Grade 2 will continue to be a focus.

This term it is expected that students will:

Grade One

  • Recognise and describe one-half as one of two equal parts of a whole
  • Measure and compare the masses of pairs of objects using uniform informal units
  • Measure and compare the capacities of pairs of objects using uniform informal units

Grade Two

  • Recognise and interpret common uses of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections
  • Compare masses of objects using balance scales
  • Compare and order several objects based on capacity using appropriate uniform informal units
