Prep
Dear Prep families,
Welcome to Week Six of Term Four.
Prep Swimming Program
The Prep students successfully completed their seven day intensive swimming program and oh, what fun they had! It was fantastic to see their confidence grow in the water and we loved hearing their excitement about the new skills they had learnt during each session. The Prep teachers are all so proud of how independent the students were during this time, using their organisational skills as well as their time management to get to and from swimming efficiently each day. Well done to all of our participating students!
Reading
In Reading, we have been revising fiction and non-fiction text features and investigating how authors use particular features to help a reader understand the text. The students have been developing their comprehension skills, finding answers to questions within the text and using evidence to justify their thinking.
When reading with your child/ren at home, we encourage you to ask them questions about the text so that they can demonstrate their understanding and identify any new information learnt when reading.
Writing
In Writing, we have continued to explore narratives, allowing the students to use their imaginations to create interesting pieces of writing that includes a setting, characters, a problem and a solution. The students have been encouraged to apply their knowledge of adjectives and punctuation to engage their audience. It has been wonderful to see the students begin to self-edit their work, as they reread their writing to check it makes sense and look for grammatical errors, such as missing punctuation or capital letters.
Maths
In Maths, the students have been enjoying inquiring into Australian coins to develop their understanding of the concept of money and its value. They have explored a variety of topics, such as, identifying the images and numbers on Australian coins, identifying the shapes, sizes and colours of coins and ordering them from least to most value. Key vocabulary explored included; money, currency, Australian, coins, silver, gold, value, highest, lowest, least and most.
Prep Wellbeing
In Week Five, our Prep students explored the various ways clothes protect the body. They also learned that clothing is used to cover certain parts of the body to meet standards of modesty and decency in different contexts. In Week Six, our Preps practised how to express when they feel uncomfortable with the way others are interacting with them physically. They also practised how to ask for help by telling a trusted adult if they or someone else is treated unfairly or inappropriately.
