In grade 3 students have settled into Term 4 with ease! The sun is shining and we are all ready to learn and enjoy the last term of the year. In Reading and Writing students have been learning about persuasive texts. Grade 3’s have been very busy identifying persuasive techniques in books, letters and media messages. Students have started to create their own persuasive pieces on their favourite season and have started to learn about the structure of a persuasive piece.
In maths Grade 3’s have started their financial money unit. They have been making, counting, adding and subtracting different money amounts and have been using play money and the vertical algorithm to help solve these equations. Students have also begun their data unit, they have started to learn about new vocabulary such as categorical and numerical data. Students have created questions for each of these categories and have been collecting data from their peers.
In science students have been introduced to their new topic – Biological Science: Catagorising living and non-living. Grade 3’s found it very interesting that there was a category of ‘once-living’ and enjoyed talking about all of the things that use to be part of a living organism or that are now extinct. In humanities students have been learning about rules and laws they are beginning to understand the differences between the two and have started to brainstorm what these look like in the real world.
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

The year 4’s have had a great start to Term 4. The students have come back keen to start the final term of the school year, enthusiasm is in the air, and our students are ready to finish strong!
Throughout Reading and Writing, we have been looking at persuasive texts. The students have very keenly created arguments that help to persuade the reader that they opinion is best. We have explored different persuasive techniques that make our writing stronger, such as, exaggeration, repetition and emotive language.
In Maths, the students are exploring financial mathematics, we have been working hard to calculate change, round to the nearest cent and calculate discounted items. They have also been learning about volume, capacity and mass. The students have enjoyed getting to do some hands-on learning to calculate the volume of different objects they created.
In Humanities, we have looked at the difference between rules and laws. We are beginning to break down the different sectors of the Australian Government and what their different areas of responsibilities are.
In Science, the students have been getting their hands dirty while learning about chemical reactions. We have completed experiments that help to understand the different elements which cause a chemical reaction. Check out some photos of our lemon volcano below!!!
We have had a very jam packed few weeks of learning and look forward to continuing this throughout the rest of the Term.

The year 5 students have all settled into term four really well and are looking forward to a massive term ahead.
Literacy
Students have been focusing on how to create a persuasive text. Students have been learning about the different persuasive devices authors use in a persuasive text and how to use them. They have learned about rhetorical questions, modality and the power of three just to name a few. Students have been reading different persuasive texts and critiquing them based on the effectiveness of the persuasive devices in the text. They have started to look at the “OREO” structure of creating paragraphs in persuasive texts and how we can incorporate the persuasive devices into these paragraphs.
Maths
Students are starting this term by investigating financial maths as well as geometry. In financial maths, students have been learning about income and expenses and how to use this information to create a budget for an event. In geometry, students have been learning how to identify and classify different types of angles. Students have also used this knowledge to assist in solving for an unknown angle. The students have been using protractors to learn how to measure different angles.
Science
This term in Science, students are going to looking at animal adaptations. Students will be investigating how the characteristic of different animals allow them to survive in different environments. In week 2, students were able to get up close and personal with some amazing Australian animals during our incursion from Animals of Oz. Students were able to see and even pat a Squirrel Glider, Green Tree Frog, Blur Tongue Lizard, Tawny Frogmouth, Saltwater Crocodile and a Diamond Python. The students all enjoyed the incursion and learned some amazing information about these wonderful creatures.
