PREP

What a fantastic start to Term 4 we have had in Grade Prep! The Prep students were happy to return to school and have shown a great interest in their learning. In Reading, we continued to read Information Texts and used a range of comprehension skills such as summarising, identifying the features of an information text and identifying new vocabulary in these texts. In Writing, we have been working on writing the sounds that we can hear in words and including facts when writing a text on our favourite animal. This week we have started our new Persuasive unit, where we will learn what an opinion is and describe reasons that are related to our opinion. 

In Math, we have been identifying patterns and copying, continuing and extending these patterns using shapes and colours. We have also begun our mass and capacity unit where we will practise how to measure the weight of an object by hefting, and describe the amount of objects in a container by using the words full, half full and empty. Students have also enjoyed beginning to learn about what animals need in order to survive in Science. In Health, students will begin to practise personal and social skills to interact with others in a range of situations.

The Grade Prep teachers are all looking forward to a great term ahead, where lots of learning and fun will occur in our student’s final term of Prep!

It was great to come back to school after our break, we got to share with our teachers what we did to relax and have fun during school holidays. We started this term learning about persuasive texts. We have been choosing between two things and writing which one we like, using our ideas and reasons for why our choice is the best. 

In Math, we are learning about grouping and sharing. We are also learning about Mass; we are hefting objects to see which is lighter or heavier. We are excited about all the things coming up for us this term like our stay late, where we will do fun activities with our friends and teachers at school

Welcome back to another exciting term of Grade 2!

This is our last term together, and we’re diving right back into learning after the holidays.

Reading: We’re exploring persuasive texts. Students will learn to summarise key points, analyse arguments, connect ideas, synthesise information from different sources, critique the effectiveness of the text, and identify the author’s opinion. Through engaging discussions and activities, they'll develop critical thinking skills.

Writing: In writing, students will craft their own persuasive texts. They’ll focus on creating a strong introduction that includes their opinion and three convincing reasons to persuade their readers. They'll also practise using persuasive language and techniques to enhance their writing.

Maths: In Maths, students will discover different ways to represent multiplication through word problems, arrays, groups, and equations. They’ll also study mass, learning how to compare the weight of various objects and understand concepts like heavy and light through hands-on activities and experiments.

Humanities: This term, we’ll be fostering creative thinking using recycled materials. Students will brainstorm ideas, plan their designs, and work collaboratively to create. *If you have any items at home that could be used for this project, please send them along to class!*

Science: In Science, we’re learning about biology—specifically how organisms grow and change from young to old or small to large. Students will observe different life cycles and explore how various factors in the environment can affect growth and development.

Health and RR: Finally, in Health and RR, we’ll focus on kindness, encouraging students to use nice words with each other, regardless of the situation. We'll engage in role-playing and group discussions to help students understand the importance of empathy and support in building positive relationships.
