Teachers will shortly begin planning classes for the 2025 school year. Class placement is one of the most complex processes we undertake each year, with each teacher and team spending many hours attempting to achieve a balance of academic skills and wellbeing needs across each year level. Friendships are considered as a strong priority, with each student being asked to nominate up to four preferences of students they would like to be with in 2025.
While we acknowledge that in some cases they are necessary, requests for specific pairings or separations add a further layer of complexity to this task, often being the most difficult part of the process to achieve while maintaining class balance.
As such, we ask that any such requests be as the result of significant concerns only. We also need to state the we can very rarely guarantee the outcome of these requests - particularly when conflicting requests are received from more than one family.
If you do have a significant request that you would like to be considered, please email peter.watson@education.vic.gov.au by the end of Friday 8th November.
Please note that due to potential teacher movement between year levels and a number of other considerations, requests for (or separations from) specific teachers are rarely able to be considered, except for the most significant circumstances.
A gentle reminder also that we would greatly appreciate early notification if your family will be moving on from Roberts McCubbin PS for the 2025 school year.
Massive congratulations to all students, staff and volunteers on the success of our production of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits! The many months of hard work and preparation were all worth it when the final product came to light, with smiles from ear to ear seen on the faces of our proud performances after each show. I'm sure there are many of our junior students who are already plotting an audition for a lead role in the years to come!
Thank you to Mr Lachlan Hilston for his leadership of the show, and also to the many staff and community volunteers who put in many hours of work in preparation. Thanks also to our parents, carers and audience attendees for making the trek down to Monash to ensure students could enjoy the experience.
Thanks again to financial sponsors TeamKids, Next Gen soccer and Classroom Cuisine for their generous support.
It's fair to say there are some weary bodies at school today - staff as well as students!
Congratulations to the team of Athletes who competed at the Regional Athletics event yesterday. Relative to our size, we had an impressive number of students make it to this level, with all competitors giving their all on the day.
Special congratulations to Alice and Jamie from Year Six, who will both be progressing to the State Championships - Jamie in the high jump and Alice in the 100 metres. A tremendous achievement for both!
Last Sunday saw the 2024 AI Cubed Design Thinking Challenge occur, hosted by Roberts McCubbin Primary School. This event featured entrants from schools across Melbourne making presentations to panels of industry experts on creative solutions to real-world problems related to sustainability.
Congratulations to Tori, Emily and Madeleine for winning the Empathy Prize for their 'Tyre Pet Bed' submission, as well as to Seth and Coen for winning the poster competition with their board game idea.
Thanks to Dion and the team for choosing our school as the host and for planning and carrying out a fantastic event once again.
Thanks also to our wonderful PFA for operating a successful sausage sizzle fundraiser on the day.
Our Assistant Principal, Stephen Roche, has commenced a Professional Learning opportunity that means he will be away from Roberts McCubbin PS for the next four weeks. During that time, Cameron Batt will be Acting Assistant Principal until the 8th of November, followed by Renae Greer for the two weeks following. We look forward to welcoming Steve back on Monday November 25, full of new ideas to make our school even better!
