Dear Families
Term 4 is off and running. Our students are learning about science and we thank St Mary’s College for sharing their Science Labs with us. We are celebrating scientific thinking from Prep to Year 6 and exploring states of matter from solids, liquids to gases.
Our senior students have completed their swimming program and our junior year levels are enjoying their swimming block. I really enjoy walking down with the different year levels, chatting with them and watching them swim. Last Friday presented a few weather obstacles but under our resident Bureau Of Meteorology expert Mr Speranza we were able to avoid the heavy downpours. The Preps walked down so well and it is always a delight to be involved in their learning. On the walk down I was asked by one Prep student why I was following them? I wasn’t sure how to answer that question.
Our Year 4s visited St Mary’s College to see what opportunities a secondary school offers and what going to Year 7 would be like. From all reports they loved their PE games, pizza making and science experiments. Thank you to David and Jo for leading our students.
On Tuesday Mia, Jay and Jemima represented our school at the Beachside Division Athletics.
After participating in Holt athletics, Jay ,Jemima and I got through to the next level of athletics and had a chance to compete in the Beachside Athletics carnival. I was so thrilled about it!! When we got there it was already very crowded with teams from so many schools with their teachers and parents supporting them. Jay and I got there early to prepare ourselves for the triple jump event. But we were told to wait till our event is announced by the organisers over the loudspeaker. I was very very excited to be there representing my school and a bit nervous at the same time. The triple jump pit was full of eager children getting advice from their coaches and teachers attending the event! Everyone was very competitive and hungry to get a win to regionals.
We all had three chances to jump.
Hop, step and JUMP!
And I jumped as far as I could and got 7.2m, my pb! It was such a great day and experience and I was happy with my score. Written by Mia
On Wednesday our Year 3 families participated in a Sacrament of Reconciliation Family Faith Night. It was great having so many there and sharing the scripture stories with lots of great questions. Thank you to Fr Jerome, Mrs Mensen, Mr Speranza, and Miss McGuinness for leading the evening. Of course the kahoot at the end was fiercely contested! We are praying for them as they make their Sacrament of Reconciliation next Wednesday evening at 6pm.
I had a visit from Arabella and Roman in Year 2, where they shared their written stories from the book We are Stuck, where a turtle with lots of friends gets stuck in a lift on his birthday. Arabella and Roman should be so proud of their creations.
Prep 2025 Orientation
It does not feel as though twelve months have passed since our current Preps were joining our St Mary’s family. Last Thursday evening we warmly welcomed our 2025 Prep parents and carers. The buzz in the air was palpable and of course our Year 6 Community Leaders stole the show. Each stood with their Prep photo behind them and shared their insights and experiences of the various opportunities that an education at St Mary's Primary School offers. There were many people working behind the scenes to make it the success it was.
Thank you to Mel, Louisa, and Kasia, for their part in the evening. Mel spoke from the heart and verbalised all that we strive to do at St Mary's. It was so affirming to hear and of course she acknowledged the role that Daniela and Rosemary (Thursdays) play. We are blessed to have them. We thank Louisa and Kasia for wearing the many hats that they do. We are so fortunate to have you both and the endless hours of work that you do for our school. A huge thank you to Mrs Borgese, Mrs Perri, Mr Speranza, Mrs Le Hunt and Mrs Mason. A great night was had by all.
On Tuesday morning our 2025 Prep students joined us for their first orientation. They were very settled and there was lots of energy in the room. It was great seeing many of the siblings looking grown up in the Prep room.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Tara for the sad passing of her father; Frank Horobin. He passed away peacefully Friday 11th October. He was a loving father and father in law to Nick and Tara, funny and loving grandfather to Eleanor and Polly.
Welcome
We warmly welcome Amelia to Year One. She already looks at home in the classroom, playground and swimming pool. All of the Year 1 students are looking after her beautifully.
I look forward to seeing many of you dressed to impress on Saturday night at our Met Gala.
Take care and wishing God's blessings and peace upon each of you.
