ROCKS AND Routines - a reminder of why they are so important in supporting the wellbeing and learning outcomes for our students.

Over the past few years, we have successfully embedded our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support specifically through the development of ROCKS, school wide expectations and more recently the establishment of Routines in each classroom with the overarching aim of creating safe, predictable and inclusive learning environments. Alongside this teacher's use HITS, high impact teaching strategies which are evidenced based designed to improve the learning outcomes of all students. In conjunction with HITS are HIWS, high impact wellbeing strategies comprising of seven practical, evidence-based strategies that have demonstrated a significant and positive effect on student wellbeing. HIWS further complement our pastoral and wellbeing programs already in place to help students meet their potential.

We must remind ourselves that student attendance is foundational and key to the success of any strategies we are employing from HITS and HIWS as students cannot gain the full benefits of school if they do not attend. Student wellbeing at school, including having positive relationships with teachers and engagement, is related to improved student attendance.

The seven HIWS are presented below and whilst all strategies are an integral part of our learning and wellbeing programs, I wanted to highlight 1, 2, 3 and 4 in this newsletter edition and how all of these have been showcased through just a small sample of the events students have been engaged with over the last couple of weeks.

  • Year 12 Graduation Assembly, Mass and Valedictory Dinner. The sight of the graduates entering the Piazza to the cheers and applause of the campus community and parents celebrate the positive relationships and connections students have with each other and their wider community.
  • Augustine House’s winning excursion highlighted the support, inclusion and belonging that is fostered from our House System.
  • The standing ovation the year 11 students gave to the teachers to celebrate World Teachers Day last week. The pride they took in wanting to show their teachers just how valued they are was tremendous.
  • The year 9 camp provides a perfect platform for the positive peer relationships that have been developed during the year which are firmly based on inclusivity and belonging. The camp provides wonderful opportunities for staff and students engage with other one in new and different experiences. The excitement for the camp is clearly visible on the faces of the students and the staff.

Everyday ROCKS and Routines build self-efficacy in students because of the established and maintained high expectations within and beyond the classroom, supporting positive learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students.

We continue every day to build on merging both HITS and HIWS to ensure that our students reach their full potential in all aspects of their wellbeing and educational goals and ambitions.

Enjoy these photographs which highlight strong and positive peer relationships, a culture that is inclusive fostering belonging and student self-efficacy and the wonderful respectful relationship our students and staff share with each other.

Year 12 Exams are well underway, and we wish our students all the very best for the exams. Tuesday saw the first exam English and whilst not all were smiling there was a great atmosphere among the students as they lined up ready to take on this challenge. Good Luck.

2025 House Captains

There was tremendous excitement this week as the 2025 House Captains were finally announced.

Congratulations to all the students who nominated and presented speeches before their peers as it takes great courage to put yourself forward in the true sense of servant leadership. Our 2025 House Captains will be formally inducted at the final campus assembly for the year in November.

Join with me in congratulating the following students.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
