Term 4 Week 4 - 1st November 2024
What a fabulous, learning-filled last two weeks we have had! The preps are busy showing us their amazing writing and mathematical skills that have shown such amazing improvement over the last year. The prep students always impress us with their growing maturity and kindness towards their peers and teachers at school!
Our grandparents' day was a huge success! Thank You to all grandparents and special visitors who came and joined us for the festivities. The students absolutely thrived through sharing their classroom with their lovely visitors.
What we are learning!
Maths:
This term we are recapping and consolidating much of the maths we have taught throughout the year. The last couple of weeks have been focused on mathematical sharing. We have been sharing objects between a certain amount. For example: sharing 10 cookies between 2 plates. We have also been revising our positional and directional language to explain where people/objects are.
Little Learners love literacy:
We continue to stream our Little Learners Love Literacy program between the Prep-2 cohort. The students love being challenged and motivated in their new groups this term, and they are all absolutely thriving. The LLLL program focuses on letter sounds and how we can use them in our word formation. We have been practising how to write down sentences that we have been told. Working on our dictation skills is fantastic practice to sound out and blend our words as we write them down.
Literacy:
Our new term 4 text type is Narrative text and we are exploring this through fairy tales. We have already covered Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the Three Little Pigs, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and The Beanstalk. We will begin a new one next week. We are continuously reminding ourselves that every narrative has the following 4 things: Characters, a setting, a problem and a solution. The students have been working on writing their very own narratives. We have been so impressed with the creative ideas that the students have been sharing with us!
Leader In me:
We are continually embedding the 7 habits language into our daily teaching through the weeks. This week’s focus is Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Inquiry:
This term our inquiry unit is all things weather! We explore how weather is measured, weather patterns and how it is reported through the media. We look at weather in other countries and discuss appropriate clothing.
Important reminders:
- Hats are required for outside play in Term 4.
- Please ensure that every item of clothing, including lunch boxes are clearly labelled.
- Please remember to ensure your child’s blue satchel is in their bag each day as we begin to put important forms and reminders in them.
- Please ensure that your child has a substantial lunch such as a sandwich/roll/wrap or thermos for example for lunch along with a snack (cracker/yoghurt) and fruit or vegetables.
- Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in the bags, just in case.
