Fantastic 3/4
Term 4 Week 4 2024
What have we been up to?
We are well into Term 4 now and there is lots going on as well as lots to look forward to! Last week we had grandparents/ special persons day, it was lovely to see so many attend and the students engaging in activities showing how much their special person means to them.
In Reading, students delved into the origins of the prefix "fore" and “de” and continued to visit the library, where they engaged with a growing variety of literature. They’ve also been focusing on improving their reading comprehension by working with short passages and answering both literal and inferential questions about the texts. We have also brought in Book Club, the books being used between the three classes are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The BFG which are all marvellous Roald Dahl creations. This will aim to create greater in depth conversations around books, sharing ideas and new perspectives.
In Writing, students have been studying the book Tilly to deepen their understanding of narrative structure. They’ve examined the author's vocabulary choices and discussed what they believe the author's purpose was in using those particular words. This week we have been extremely impressed by students starting their narrative writing, with a heavy focus on descriptive writing to enhance the reader's interest.
In Maths, students are continuing to build their understanding of measurement, including length, area, capacity, and volume and how to convert. This week, they are focusing on Perimeter and Area. Students are learning about the formula to calculate the area and perimeter of specific objects and shapes.
This term in science, students will learn about different types of forces, including electrostatics and magnetism, and explore their properties. They will investigate the relationship between force and the speed of an object, as well as how friction affects moving objects. The curriculum also integrates the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, examining forces in traditional sports and games. Additionally, students will explore the forces involved in actions like throwing, dropping, bouncing, and rolling, gaining a broader understanding of physical sciences.
Homework has started again for the term! Each Monday students will now receive a sheet, which will include reading comprehension as well as a maths activity sheet. This will be due the following Monday. If students have not completed it they will be given the chance to receive help during a 15 minute homework club during recess time that day.
