A word from our Learning Areas

As we come to the end of 2025, the Arts Department would like to congratulate all our Visual and Performing Arts students on an outstanding year. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, resilience and commitment shown by our students, particularly over the past few weeks as the junior classes completed their CATs and major assignments.

Across the department, students have produced an impressive range of work this term, from Soft Toys in Year 7 Art to Zines in Year 9 Print and Photography. We were all very impressed with the work ethic, skill application and work ethic displayed by each student.

We are also extremely proud of our school bands and choir for their wonderful performances at Greensborough Plaza and the Night of Excellence, where they represented our school with confidence and professionalism.

Looking ahead, we are excited for an action-packed 2026, including the school production of High School Musical, VCE excursions to see the Season of Excellence (Top Arts and Top Screens), Junior and Middle School excursions to ACMI, the NGV and Class Clowns, as well as hopefully some on site incursions for the Arts. We also look forward to the continued success of Art Club at lunchtime and the new addition of Media Club.

We wish all students and families a safe, restful and happy summer holiday break, and we look forward to another creative year ahead.

Happy holidays from the Arts Department

Connect is Greensborough College’s social, emotional, and careers learning program for students in Years 7–10.

This year, all year levels took part in The Resilience Project. This program empowers students through activities designed to develop gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, along with emotional literacy and healthy habits. These skills help students develop positive emotions and stronger resilience. We look forward to continuing this program in 2026.

In addition, across the year Year 7 and 8 students were supported through the transition to secondary school, developed teamwork skills, and learned about Indigenous culture through a range of activities.

Year 9 students prepared for future employment by writing resumes and cover letters, completing mock interviews through the RIJI program, and undertaking the Morrisby Careers Assessment.

Year 10 students built financial literacy and explored career pathways while preparing for Work Experience.

The English Learning Area continued to thrive in 2025, with strong student engagement across all year levels. Classrooms have been vibrant and focused, with students reading independently, collaborating in groups, and actively developing their literacy skills.

This year, the team strengthened consistency in teaching by working closely in year-level teams and implementing the updated Victorian English Curriculum 2.0.

New staff—Taylor Witkin, Sarah Dodd and Aidan Clarke—have further enriched the program.

Junior students successfully completed Literature Circles, Reciprocal Reading and speaking activities, while Years 9 and 10 increased their focus on writing in preparation for VCE.

Senior students met the demands of VCE with determination, supported by a dedicated teaching team. With refreshed leadership ahead, the English Learning Area is well positioned to build on its 2025 successes in the year to come.

Food Technology at Greensborough College is a hands-on, creative journey that grows with students from Year 7 to Year 12. Across all levels, students explore food origins, nutrition, culture, sustainability and design, while building confidence, independence and teamwork skills.

In the junior years, students master kitchen safety and simple cooking through fun projects like the Year 7 Burger Design Brief and Year 8 Noodle Box Project, blending creativity with nutrition and presentation.

Years 9 and 10 expand horizons with global cuisines, sustainability challenges, café-style cooking and patisserie, supported by exciting excursions and real-world food investigations.

At Year 12 Vocational Major, learning becomes purposeful and practical, with projects such as garden planning, catering events and food education for younger students.

With access to fresh garden produce and real-life experiences, the program feeds curiosity, skills and future.  It’s one delicious lesson after another!
