Year 9 Media & Film Excursion to ACMI

Ms Sarah Dodd

On the 5th of December, the Year 9 Media & Film class travelled to ACMI in the CBD for an end-of-semester excursion. The visit gave students the chance to explore two major exhibitions: Game Worlds and Story of the Moving Image.

Our first stop was Game Worlds, an exhibition celebrating more than 50 years of video game history. Students had the opportunity to interact with over 30 iconic games, from classics of the 1970s to modern favourites. The exhibition encouraged students to think about how games are designed, built and experienced.

Students then visited the Story of the Moving Image exhibition, an interactive journey through the history and evolution of screen culture. Students were able to experiment with animation, create their own optical toys, step onto recreated film sets, explore costumes and props, and build soundscapes in a custom Foley studio.

The excursion allowed students to experience media concepts in an authentic, hands-on way while deepening their understanding of how stories are told through games, film, and digital technologies.

We had a great time, and it was a fantastic way to end the semester in Year 9 Media and Film.
