In the classroom

Foundation

What a fantastic start to primary school our little Foundations have had. They have started following our school routines well and settling into the classroom like they have been here for years.

As a class we have enjoyed listening to many stories about starting school and how we all have fears and worries. We spoke about having an invisible string connected to the people that we love, and we can share our worries to them too. We learnt about “Chomp” a shark that couldn't make friends at the start of the day, but when everyone saw how likeable he was he had many best friends.

We have begun our numeracy journey by looking at patterns within our classroom and how we can use our body to create patterns too. Clapping and jumping have been a big hit!!

A reminder that we have Wednesdays off during February with each child rostered on to have an hour in the classroom to complete some individual assessment one-on-one with the teacher.

Year 1/2B

Grade 1/2B have started the year reading the story about Gerald - who thought he couldn't dance - but it turned out he could and he was very good at it.  A great story about not giving up and having the courage to try things that we don't think we can do. We will be talking about Gerald a lot this year as we build resilience when we are learning new things that might seem hard to start with.

Year 1/2F

Students from 1-2F have made a great start to the new year! Have a look at how well they are following our entry routines as well as practicing the routines they learnt last year.

The weekly timetable was sent home earlier this week, which shows when students will be participating in different classes.

Please remember to send a drink bottle and fruit in a separate, small container that students can handle easily each day. Library will be on Wednesday each week.

Year 3/4

In our Year 3/4 classroom, we learnt about special qualities that help us work well together and support one another. We show kindness by helping our classmates, respect by listening to each other’s ideas, and patience by taking turns. When we work as a team, we share, encourage each other, and try our best to include everyone. These special qualities help our classroom feel safe, happy, and successful, and they help us learn how to be good teammates and friends.

To support how we work as a team, each student has their own special 'Team Player' card. They will embrace and practice these qualities throughout the year.

Year 5/6

The Grade 5/6 students have started the term positively, settling quickly into our regular routines and OCHRE Education learning. This term, students will be reading A Ghost in My Suitcase, which they have already found quite interesting, learning lots about the Chinese culture already. In Maths, students have been exploring Data Representation, with a focus on interpreting and creating dot plots. On Friday, the Grade 6’s were selling Zooper Doopers for 50 cents each. The worked well together, and they look forward to selling more every Friday this term.
