Auslan
Level 1 and 2
This week we will continue to explore the Auslan alphabet through fingerspelling and games, and will continue practicing using our dominant hand to create most of the movement when signing letters. We will also participate in simple, interactive games to practice copying signs and turn-taking.
Level 3 and 4
In Auslan this week, student's will build on last week's work by sharing short experiences, such as weekend or school activities, and expressing what they liked or didn’t like. They will practice sequencing ideas using signs like first and then, and learn how facial expression helps add meaning when signing.
Level 5 and 6
In week 3, students will learn how to share what they did on the weekend with simple sequencing such as first, then and last. They will explore how facial expression and body movement help show time, order and meaning in Auslan.
Performing Arts
Victorian State School Spectacular
Congratulations to all students who auditioned to take part in the VSSS! We were so impressed with the energy, focus and skills from the students. Offers will be made to students early this week, with acceptance forms to be signed and returned to school by the end of this week. Thank you for supporting and encouraging your children in this process.
In the Classroom
This week in Performing Arts, students will continue settling into the year through engaging music, drama and dance experiences. Lessons will focus on building clear routines and expectations while strengthening confidence, collaboration and a sense of belonging in the Performing Arts space.
Students will take part in games, movement activities and group music-making, with an emphasis on working together safely and respectfully. Classes will also begin learning a whole-school song, which will be developed across the term and connects directly to our CBL Big Idea of Community. Some classes will also begin their new unit of learning. We’ll share more details in next week’s Wonga Weekly once all classes have begun the unit in full swing.
Physical Education
Prep
This week, our Prep students will continue learning the basics of Physical Education. They will explore moving in different ways such as walking, running, jumping and balancing. A key focus will be listening and responding to a whistle, as well as learning how to stop safely and follow simple rules during game-based activities. These lessons help build confidence, coordination and positive participation in PE.
Grade 1 & 2
This week, our Grade 1 and 2 students will be developing their fundamental movement skills, including running, skipping and hopping. Students will practise these skills through a variety of fun and engaging games that encourage movement, teamwork and spatial awareness. The focus will be on building strong movement foundations while enjoying being active.
Grade 3 & 4
This week, students in Grades 3 and 4 will be working on the skill of catching. They will practise catching in different ways and with a variety of equipment through structured activities and small games. Students will then apply this skill in game situations, helping to improve hand–eye coordination, confidence and cooperation with others.
Grade 5 & 6
This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students will be focusing on the skill of throwing. Students will practise different types of throws for accuracy and control through a range of activities. They will also apply these skills in game situations, developing their technique, decision-making and teamwork in a fun and active environment.
Visual Arts
Prep
Students will be experimenting with clay, how to mould and shape it into different forms. They will create a pinch pot and stamp a pattern around the outside edge using found materials.
Grade 1/2
Students will be experimenting with clay and how to use stamps and cutters to create shapes and letters. They will also be finishing off collaging their work book cover, focussing on cutting and pasting skills as well as layering and balancing their final design.
Grade 3/4
Students will begin to decorate their chair bag for their classroom. They will use iron on papers and motifs to create a personalised design including their first name and any passions or interests they want to represent.
Grade 5/6
Students will begin a painting including layers of colour, pattern and detail using a variety of materials. They will start this week with base colours of their choice to fill the canvas with abstract shapes.
