Leadership updates and reflections

An update from Julie Crawford
We are very proud of how smoothly our students have settled into the new school year. During these first few weeks, our focus has been on building strong relationships and establishing clear routines and expectations. These foundations help create a safe, calm, and supportive learning environment where every child can feel confident and ready to learn. Our Prep students have been absolute superstars, arriving each day with big smiles, eager to learn, and enjoying time with their wonderful Grade 6 buddies.
Parent Partnerships
Thank you to all of our parents who took the opportunity last week to attend the Getting To Know You conversations to share valuable insights about their child, and begin (or continue) to build a strong and positive home-school partnership.
This week we hope you can join us again for the Parent Information sessions which are online for Grades 1-6 and face-to face for our Prep families. Please note that the specialist team presentation and all grade presentations will be recorded to enable families to view them at a convenient time. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet the level team, learn about plans for the year ahead, and hear about key expectations and upcoming events for your child’s year level. You’ll also pick up some useful tips on how you can support and stay involved in your child’s learning.
School Council Nominations
Families should have received information about the School Council Nominations which open tomorrow, Tuesday, 10th February and close next Monday, 16th February. Nomination forms are available at the office or can be emailed. Please contact the office if your require further information.

We are so lucky have such a wonderful Wonga Park community, where families and the wider community are always willing to lend a helping hand. A big thank you to the parents who have already put up their hand to volunteer in so many ways in these first few weeks of the year. We are so fortunate to have a fantastic group of Parent Reps, Stephanie Alexander volunteers, after-school basketball coaches, team managers, and helpers supporting our pop-up canteen and administrative tasks. We truly appreciate your support!
Have a great week
Warm regards
Julie

Annual privacy reminder for our school community
Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ privacy policy and the Schools’ privacy collection notice.
Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parental consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.
We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365, please contact the school.
For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ privacy policy: information for parents.
Notification of Emergency Management Drill
We will be conducting an Emergency Management drill on Friday 13th February, where students and staff will practise moving to the basketball court in the event of an internal fire.
The Department of Education requires schools to regularly rehearse emergency procedures throughout the year to ensure everyone is well prepared and knows what to do in the event of an emergency.
Before and After School Supervision
Student safety at Wonga Park Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.
Before school: Parents are reminded that students should not be in the school grounds unsupervised before 8.40am. School grounds are supervised from 8.40am. Should students arrive prior to 8.40 am they will be asked to wait in the office, parents will be contacted. Staff are on duty in the carpark, the gates at Dudley Road and Lantana Road. There is also a teacher on duty who will rove around the top/middle area of the school. Students should not play on the reserve or oval before school.
After school: School grounds are supervised until 3.40pm. Staff are on duty in the carpark, the gates at Dudley Road and Lantana Road. There is also a teacher on duty who will rove around the top/middle area of the school. Students should not play on the reserve or oval before school.
Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).
Families are encouraged to contact Their Care on 1300 072 410 or refer to their website for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.
Disability and Inclusion
Partnering to Support Your Child’s Learning: Allied Health and School Collaboration
We value strong partnerships between families, allied health professionals and teaching staff to ensure every student can thrive. Many students access therapy through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), including speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology and allied health supports that help build skills and independence outside of school. Allied health professionals often complete assessments and reports that describe a child’s strengths, needs and progress, which can also be valuable in guiding educational planning and classroom adjustments.
We encourage parents and carers to share relevant allied health reports and NDIS goals. Regularly exchanging information between therapists and the school helps inform Individual Education Plans (IEPs), adjustments in the classroom and ensures learning and support strategies align with your child’s strengths and goals. This partnership not only strengthens planning and teaching, but it also ensures supports are consistent, meaningful and tailored to your child’s needs.
If you have questions about sharing information, how it’s used at school, or ways we can work together, please contact me.
Child Safety
Safer Internet Day
This week, our school will acknowledge Safer Internet Day, a global event on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, dedicated to raising awareness about online safety and positive digital habits. Led by the eSafety Commissioner in Australia, the day encourages students, families and the wider community to reflect on how we use the internet and take simple steps to make it safer and more respectful for everyone.
Prep students will explore what we use the internet for and learned about making safe choices online. Through the story Swoosh & Glide and an interactive sorting activity, students will discuss what to do when something feels tricky or confusing online.
Grade 1 and 2 students will be reading ‘The Fabulous Friend Machine’ to help drive discussion about how to stay safe online.
Grade 3 and 4 will explore consent and permission in online environments, practise setting personal boundaries, and learn how to seek help and report concerns to keep themselves and others safe online.
Grade 5 and 6 students will be doing a cyber safety lesson on ‘online boundaries and consent’ from the esafely commissioner website.
eSafety Commission online workshops (regular Wonga Weekly entry)
The eSafety provides free webinars that provide parents and carers with the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe, positive online experiences.
