Prep

Dear Families,

What an exciting start to Prep we’ve had! Our Preps had their very first day today, and what a blast it was.

It was so lovely to see the children making new friends and beginning to build connections within our Prep community. The children settled in beautifully and jumped straight into a busy day of learning and fun.

We enjoyed listening to a class story together, exploring new spaces during Investigations, and having a go at writing. There was also plenty of excitement as we explored the playground during recess — lots of smiles, laughter, and new friendships beginning to form.

We are so proud of how confidently the children approached their first day and can’t wait for all the learning, discoveries, and fun that lie ahead.

Thank you for your continued support as we begin this wonderful journey together.

Kindest regards,

The Prep Team

Laina Brebner, Kayla Hartrick and Emma Wright

Grade 1

What a great start to the year we have had in Level 1! We have been so impressed with how quickly the Grade 1 students have settled into their new classrooms and routines.  Students have been busy making new friends and getting to know their teachers and classroom expectations.

In Reading students have been consolidating the letters and sounds they learnt last year. They have practised learning how to pick a 'good fit' book.

In Writing, students have been learning to write diary entries. They are practising writing from different perspectives and including features such as the date, time connectives and writing from the past tense.

In Maths, students are learning about place value. We are using our 'super-hero eyes' to subitize numbers.

This term in investigations we are exploring the topic 'Community'.  Some of our favourite spaces have been the 'Library', the 'Hairdressers' and 'Mini-beasts'.

Grade 2

🌈 A Great Start to the Year in                        Grade 2! 🌈

The Grade 2 students have made a wonderful start to the new school year, and it has been so lovely to see how quickly everyone has settled into their new classrooms and routines.

During our first week, students have been busy learning how Grade 2 works — practising classroom routines, establishing our classroom agreements and connecting with both new and familiar friends. There has already been lots of kindness, teamwork, and positive attitudes on display across the year level.

Our classrooms have also been carefully set up to feel safe, welcoming and ready for learning. The students have taken pride in these spaces and are enjoying starting each day in an environment where they feel comfortable and supported.

Learning is well underway! In Reading, students are working on summarising the key parts of a narrative. In Writing, they are creating interesting and engaging recounts about their experiences. In Mathematics, we are strengthening our place value knowledge and building strong number skills.

We are very excited to begin our new phonics program next week and take-home reading will also start — an important part of supporting learning both at school and at home.

It has been such a positive and busy start to the year, and we are incredibly proud of how well the Grade 2 students have embraced new challenges. We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth, and fun ahead!

Grade 3 & 4

We have had a such a positive start to 2026! It’s been wonderful seeing the students back in the classroom, enjoying seeing their friends again and jumping straight into quality learning!

In Reading, we have begun setting up our Reader’s Workshop expectations and what reading sessions will look like in our classrooms. We’ve already read some short texts to the students, such as ‘All Are Welcome’ and Alison Lester’s ‘Imagine’ where the students created a page based on the same structure of the text.

Students this week have helped create a chart about ‘What Good Readers Do’ and have completed lots of reading to begin building up their reading stamina after the holidays.

Finally, students have completed a reading survey, as they begin to conference with their teacher.

In Writing, students returned to class with so much to talk about and share about the holiday’s which included trips away, movies, friend catchups and lots of swimming!

They enjoyed writing a creative and descriptive recount about their holiday events.

This week, students filled in a Bingo card with their own writing ideas from some of their life memories and experiences. This created many amazing ideas to then draft, edit and publish throughout the week.

In Maths, the first week consisted of setting up our maths classroom, with expectations and agreements. We enjoyed playing lots of quick maths games and activities.

This week the Place Value unit has started which has included creating character portraits with MAB blocks. Once completed, students had to estimate what the value of their character might be, followed by calculating the exact value of the blocks used. Students had to then record their value in 3 ways – Place Value form, Standard form and Worded form. Lots of hands-on fun was had!

In Inquiry, the students have started understanding the concept of ‘community’ with the unit titled ‘Our Dynamic Community’. In the first few weeks, students will explore what makes a community dynamic and how communities can change over time. They will learn about Australian community change makers and how they are recognised for their contributions.

A reminder that hats need to be worn in Term 1. Please send your child with their hat if you haven’t as yet. It is encouraged that all students have headphones at school to use with their laptops.

Grade 3s, in particular, will need their own headphones for completing NAPLAN later in the term. Also, a reminder that Reading Logs and Spelling sheets have been sent home this week for home learning. Completed logs and sheets are to be handed in each Monday to the class teacher. Maths home learning (via the online program Squizya) will be starting in Week 4.

We’ve had a ball over the first 8 days of school! Please keep a look out for events and information on Compass and reach out to your class teacher with any question or concerns.

Kind regards,

The 3/4 Team

Damien Smith, Daena Hailey, Brent Smith, Claire Cripps and Nick Pagliaro

Grade 5 & 6

The Grade 5/6 students have returned to school relaxed, refreshed and ready for learning. It has been wonderful to hear about their holidays and watch them reconnect with their friends.

We have been impressed with the way the students have returned to school, they have really shown that they are the leaders of the school and have set a beautiful example to our younger students.

We have many exciting events on the horizon so please keep an eye out on Compass for some special announcements.

Homework for Reading and Spelling has begun, so please encourage your children to complete their learning activities. A quick reminder for all students to ensure they have a Sun Smart hat and water bottle at school everyday. Apply sunscreen before school and remember students may reapply at our sunscreen stations! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Kind regards,

The 5/6 Team

Mykaela Oakley, Kylie Morrissey, Hayley Peirce, Llinos Poole and Erin Rennick.
