Assistant Principals' Report

Hello everyone and welcome to our newsletter article,

School Values, Resilience

This week some Year 6 students from Room 4 discussed the school value of resilience, which is a value that certainly helps us all as we creep to the end of the school year!

The students shared the following when asked the following questions:

What is resilience?

  • Believing in yourself and not giving up
  • Putting in the effort required to be the best you can be
  • Acknowledging when something is hard but 'pushing past it'
  • Persistence
  • Not limiting yourself or others
  • Knowing when you need help
  • A growth mindset

How do you demonstrate resilience?

Beacon- The Kids Research Institute Australia

As changes are taking place broadly around Australia with social media access, together with changes for 2026 school year for digital technology use in Victorian schools, I am sharing the Beacon link below. In a digital world that moves at a rapid pace, parents and carers are often left feeling overwhelmed and concerned about how to keep children safe online and where to access accurate information. Our Australian government funded Beacon website (which also has an app for your phone or other device), is a great evidence based platform.

Our partnership with Evolve who support us with student, staff and parent workshops and professional learning in the area of digital safety and wellbeing highly recommend this app.

Download the beacon app in the usual ways for phones and other devices.

Apology

This week the Victorian government has made an apology to Aboriginal Victorians in parliament. The apology was negotiated as part of the state's historic treaty agreement, which was signed into law last month. In a age appropriate way classes across the school completed an activity to spark conversation around this topic. The story written by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing and illustrated by David Hardy 'Walk with Us' was used as a mentor text followed by discussion and a lovely follow up task.

Please check out who is reading the book and popped up on YouTube as I was writing this article. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsd0y_0vCHY
