It was lovely to see students returning to the school yard last Thursday morning as they began the new school year. Many were pleased to reconnect with friends, meet their new teachers, and start building relationships with classmates.
For some students, the beginning of the school year is a positive and energising time. For others, it can bring feelings of uncertainty or anxiety. We recognise that changes to routine, adjusting to a new teacher and peers, or moving to a different classroom location can take time and may feel challenging for some children.
At Williamstown Primary School, we are mindful of these experiences for all students, including those who may appear settled. In the early weeks of the year, classroom teachers focus on getting to know their students, building respectful relationships, and working collaboratively to establish shared expectations and classroom routines. The upcoming Meet the Teacher conferences on Wednesday 11th February provide an opportunity to share information and discuss your child’s strengths, interests, and individual needs.
Our WPS 2026 Wellbeing Team comprises Lisa Leydin (Assistant Principal), Anna Swan (Disability Inclusion & Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader). If your child continues to experience difficulty settling into school routines beyond the first few weeks, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or a member of the Wellbeing Team. We are here to support you and your child.
