As we settle into Term 3 and the winter weather continues, the Resource Centre remains a warm and welcoming place for students to spend their recess and lunch breaks. Whether it’s finding a quiet corner to read, studying with friends, borrowing a new book or simply enjoying some time indoors, the Centre continues to be a hub of learning, connection and discovery.

It is with great excitement that we welcome Mrs Cath Banks as the new Resource and Student Study Teacher. Mrs Banks is no stranger to the Kildare Community, having been a student herself before returning to the College in 2010, where she spent more than 10 years teaching English.  During different points at her time at KCC, she has also held the roles of English KLA Leader and the house leader of Gandhi and Oodgeroo, testimony of her dedication to literacy, learning and student wellbeing. Mrs Banks is eager to be back and looks forward to creating a welcoming environment in the Resource Centre, one that encourages a love for reading and supports senior students in developing effective study habits to maximise their learning outcomes.

To celebrate International Friendship Day, the Resource Centre is featuring a special book display showcasing stories of friendship from a variety of genres and year levels. Students have been enjoying browsing the display and discovering books that celebrate kindness, loyalty, inclusion and the importance of meaningful connections. We hope the display inspires students to borrow a book, share a recommendation with a friend and discover a new favourite read.

As our Year 12 students prepare for their Trial HSC examinations, a quiet study area has been established in the Resource Centre during recess and lunch. This dedicated space has provided students with a calm environment to revise, complete practice questions and study together. Thank you to our staff and students for their support in helping to maintain this quiet study area and create an atmosphere that allows our senior students to focus during this important time.

Looking ahead, preparations are well underway for this year’s CBCA Book Week celebrations. We look forward to sharing how our school community celebrates the joy of reading and the wonderful world of children’s literature.
