Partnering in Your Child's Learning: The Purpose of Student-Led Conferences

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Wednesday, 16th September, we will be holding our Student Led Conferences. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to take the lead and guide you through a showcase of their learning, growth, and progress throughout the year.

Student-Led Conferences are a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). They are designed to empower students by giving them true ownership of their education and a meaningful platform to reflect on their achievements.

What to expect during the conference:

  • Your child takes the lead: Rather than sitting listening to a teacher, you will be guided entirely by your child as they share their personal learning journey.
  • A showcase of growth: Students will share work from across the year, explain their learning and reflect honestly on both their challenges and successes.
  • Building vital life skills: This process encourages deep self-awareness, responsibility, and a genuine sense of pride in their own progress.

Unlike traditional parent-teacher interviews, the spotlight remains firmly on your child as the primary communicator. It is a fantastic live demonstration of our IB Learner Profile attributes in action—showing how our students are becoming reflective, open-minded, and confident individuals. While classroom teachers facilitate the process and are available for brief discussions, this is your child's moment to shine.

These conferences are incredibly valuable for strengthening the partnership between home and school, while supporting our students in becoming independent, motivated, and engaged lifelong learners.

We look forward to welcoming you into the classrooms for these special conversations.

Warm regards,

Tracy Thornton
