Staying Engaged - Resilience and Attendance at HPS

Winter often brings challenges to our routines, but maintaining the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever.

We want to work with our families to ensure students are in class and enjoying the benefits of a consistent education. Did you know that missing just a few days each term can lead to significant gaps in learning over time? At HPS, we want every child to have the full benefit of our specialist programs and social activities.

A Note on Wellbeing: Sometimes children feel worried about schoolwork or friendship shifts. While it’s tempting to let them stay home to "reset," this can often create a negative pattern of behaviour. Encouraging them to attend helps build resilience. If you need support with this, please contact your class teacher or Mrs. Tait (Mental Health and Wellbeing Teacher) so we can create a plan together.

Working Together

Please remember:

  • Daily Absences: If your child is unwell or must be absent, please notify on Compass.
  • Extended Holidays: If your family holiday is four or more days during the school term, please inform the Principal via email (highton.ps@education.vic.gov.au).

Seek Support: If your child is having difficulty attending or feeling anxious about school, please speak with their Class Teacher or Mrs. Tait (Mental Health and Wellbeing Teacher).

District Athletics – Proudly Representing Our School

A huge congratulations to our 57 District Athletics representatives! Our students achieved some fantastic results, but most importantly, they gave it their absolute all. We were proud of our students competing with grace and resilience, especially when things didn't go as planned. Well Done everyone!
