Swimming Reminders

As we begin our swimming program, please ensure your child:

• Comes to school with their bathers already on underneath their school uniform.
• Brings a towel.
• Brings a waterproof bag for wet bathers.
• Brings a spare pair of shoes e.g crocs, thongs.
• Packs a change of underwear and socks (or any clothing worn underneath their school uniform).

We are currently collecting recycled materials for our exciting Term 3 Science Projects in the STEM room. We would greatly appreciate donations of clean items such as plastic water bottles or soft drink bottles, shoe boxes, plastic lids, and cardboard tubing or paper rolls (please no toilet rolls).

Donations can be dropped off at the STEM room at any time. Thank you for your continued support in helping provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for our students.

📖 Literacy 

Over the past fortnight, students have begun reading the book Charlotte's Web. As we explore the story together, students have been identifying important themes such as kindness, friendship, empathy and standing up for what is right, while developing their comprehension through rich class discussions and reading activities. Students have enjoyed getting to know the memorable characters and have enthusiastically been discussing the events of the story.

Sentence Level Writing: In Sentence Level Writing, students have been strengthening their sentence construction skills by identifying key information in a text, to write clear and concise summary sentences. They have also been using a variety of conjunctions to join independent and dependent clauses, and have been exploring different sentence types, including statements, commands, questions and exclamations. 

Text Level Writing: In Text Level Writing, students have begun planning and writing their own narratives based on the theme of an unlikely friendship. They have developed detailed story plans and have started drafting their narratives by writing an engaging orientation and action paragraph, introducing their characters and setting and putting the events of their story in motion.

Preview: Students will plan and write their problem paragraph of their narrative, whilst continuing to read Charotte's Web.

 🧠Knowledge Rich

In Knowledge Rich, our Grade 3 students have enthusiastically begun our new unit on Democracy and Citizenship. Students have explored the importance of rules and laws, discussing the difference between rules that are fair and unfair and how they help keep communities safe, respectful and organised. 

They have also investigated what it means to live in a democracy, learning that every citizen has a voice and that voting is an important way to make decisions. Through thoughtful class discussions and collaborative activities, students have been developing their understanding of fairness, responsibility and active citizenship.

Preview: Over the next fortnight, students will learn about the purpose and process of voting, and strengthen their understanding on the meaning of being an active citizen in society. 

   ➗ Maths

Over the past fortnight, students have successfully concluded the unit on Multiplication and Division. Throughout the unit, they strengthened their problem-solving skills by applying a range of strategies to solve word problems, including using bar models to represent mathematical thinking and identify the operations needed. It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident in explaining and justifying their mathematical reasoning.

We have now begun our unit on Angles, where students have been identifying small and large angles in the classroom, learning how to correctly label an angle, and recognising right angles in everyday objects. By learning the key components of an angle such as rays, vertex and angle, students were able to complete the hands-on activity of finding small and large angles within the classroom. 

Preview: Over the next fortnight, we will begin the next unit where we are focussing on telling the time. There will be a particular focus on reading analog time to the minute, writing digital time, and converting analog and digital times.

🌿Wellbeing

This term, we began our Friendology unit, where students explored the topics of name-calling, mean-on-purpose behaviour, and the difference between accidental and intentional unkind actions. Together, we discussed practical strategies students can use if they experience these situations themselves or witness them happening to others, helping to build confidence and kindness in our community. 

We have also begun our Positive Coping unit, where students are learning that everyone experiences challenges and strong emotions at times. Through class discussions and activities, we have been building a toolbox of healthy coping strategies to help manage difficult feelings, solve problems, and build resilience.

Preview: Students will continue to look at positive coping strategies by practicing self-calming techniques. We will also be looking at meaningful apologies and how to ensure that our apologies are genuine.
