Celebrating '100 Days of School'

We are 100 Days Brighter! What an incredible milestone! Our Prep students celebrated 100 days of learning by dressing up as adorable 100 year olds, creating self-portraits of their future selves, and taking part in fun activities to mark the special occasion.

Over the past 100 days, our little learners have shown tremendous growth in their reading, writing, maths and friendships. They have become more confident, resilient and independent every single day. We are so proud of everything they have achieved and the effort they bring to learning each day. Here's to celebrating 100 amazing days of Prep and all the exciting learning still to come!

Literacy -

This fortnight in Literacy, we are exploring the story Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. Students are learning about confidence, perseverance, individuality and having a growth mindset through Gerald's experiences. They have responded to the text by creating story maps, retelling the story, sequencing key events, revising nouns and verbs, and writing simple sentences using capital letters and full stops. Students have also participated in activities that explore movement, sounds in nature and character emotions, helping to strengthen their comprehension, oral language and sentence writing skills.

We have also introduced Fluency Partners into our daily reading routine. Each day, students read with a set partner using their Sparkle texts, taking turns to read aloud and listen to one another. This regular practise helps students build reading fluency, accuracy and confidence as they develop smooth, expressive reading.

Preview - Children will continue exploring Giraffes Can't Dance and sharing their thoughts and opinions about the story. They will also learn to identify the difference between a complete sentence and a fragment.

Knowledge Rich-

Sheep shearing, cow milking and pig wallowing – our little Prep farmers have been busy working on our very own LPS Farm!

Over the past fortnight, we have been learning about the importance of farms, farmers and farm animals, and the important role they play in our everyday lives. We explored harvesting, discovered where our food comes from, and even tried our hand at growing sweet corn and radishes.

Our Prep students have developed a new appreciation for the hard work of farmers and a greater respect for the journey our food takes before it reaches our lunchboxes. We can't wait to continue growing our crops and learning even more as we prepare for our upcoming visit to Myuna Farm!

Maths -

This fortnight in Maths, our Prep students have continued exploring addition and subtraction through a range of hands-on and engaging learning experiences. Over the past few weeks, students have practised combining and separating collections, using mathematical language to describe what happens when we add to or take away from a group.

They have represented addition and subtraction problems using concrete materials, drawings and number sentences, while developing confidence in explaining their thinking. Students have also explored different strategies to solve problems, such as counting on, counting back and using part-part-whole knowledge. It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident and flexible in applying their addition and subtraction skills in a variety of contexts.

Preview- Next fortnight, students will be exploring measurement through hands-on learning experiences. They will compare and describe the length, height, mass and capacity of everyday objects using informal units and mathematical language. Students will develop their ability to estimate, measure and explain their thinking while making connections between measurement and the world around them.

Wellbeing

This fortnight students celebrated ‘Friendship Day’, a day to promote all the wonderful relationships we have at LPS!

This day promotes being kind, supportive and accepting of all the different people that make up our LPS community. Students made a friendship magnet that included a drawing of themselves and someone they think is a special friend that shows kindness, fairness, respect and makes them feel happy and included.
