Life Ed
In Week 7, our Grade 6 students will be participating in Life Ed sessions focusing on Thriving in Puberty and Journey to Human Reproduction. These sessions provide age-appropriate information to help students understand the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty, as well as an introduction to human reproduction.

Learning in Action
Reading
Students have continued reading Nevermoor. In Chapters 10–15 of Nevermoor, Morrigan Crow begins to settle into her new life at the Wundrous Society. She meets other Wundrous children and starts learning more about the Society and the trials she must complete to earn her place. Morrigan begins to form friendships, particularly with Jupiter North and the other candidates, while also discovering that being a Wundrous member is not always easy. During these chapters, she experiences new challenges and starts to understand more about the unusual world she has entered.
Throughout our study of Nevermoor, students regularly interact with each other by discussing comprehension questions and sharing their ideas about the novel. Students work with partners and small groups to explain their thinking, make predictions, identify important events and use evidence from the text to support their answers. These discussions encourage students to listen to different perspectives, build on each other's ideas and develop a deeper understanding of the characters, setting and events in the novel.
Preview: Students will continue reading Nevermoor and developing their comprehension and writing skills. They will learn how to summarise a text by identifying the main idea and supporting details, then using a Single Paragraph Outline (SPO) to plan a clear topic sentence, supporting details and concluding sentence. Students will also explore the use of a triple, where writers use three items in a row to make their writing more engaging and memorable. This can include three adjectives, three noun phrases or three clauses, also known as the Rule of 3, Power of 3 or Magic 3.
Writing
In Writing, students have been exploring narrative fantasy stories and have begun planning and creating their own imaginative pieces. To spark creativity, they have been encouraged to use a magical portal as a story prompt, leading their characters into exciting new worlds and adventures. Students are free to create an original story or draw inspiration from a favourite book, movie, or fantasy genre while incorporating their own unique ideas.
Preview: Students will continue to work on these narratives over the coming weeks, ensuring to use a range of literary devices to enhance their stories.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of angle relationships by identifying angles on a straight line, angles at a point, and vertically opposite angles. They have been using these relationships to calculate unknown angles and solve a variety of reasoning problems. Students have been identifying complementary and supplementary angles to help solve a series of problems. Students were tasked with identifying a variety of different angles that were taped on their tables (see images below).
Preview: Over the coming weeks, students will revise decimals. Students will be multiplying and dividing decimals.
Knowledge Rich:
During Knowledge Rich this fortnight, students have been continuing to expand their knowledge of three different countries - Australia, Vietnam and Greenland. Students have been learning about the imports and exports of each country, as well as what each country's natural resources are. Students have just begun work on their final project for this unit, where they compare the three countries in regard to their climate, landscapes, population, culture, and trade. Students are creating a slideshow/poster to display their findings.
