📖 Literacy
In Literacy, we have continued reading Charlotte’s Web and exploring Chapters 10–16. Students have followed Wilbur’s growing friendship with Charlotte, including Charlotte’s clever plan to save Wilbur from becoming the Christmas dinner. We have met new characters and explored important events at the Zuckerman farm, including the county fair and Wilbur’s growing fame. Through our reading, students have been developing their comprehension skills, making predictions, discussing characters and identifying important events and themes throughout the story.
In Writing, students have been developing their ability to expand sentences by adding details about what, when, where and how, while using appropriate punctuation. We have also been practising summarising key events from Charlotte’s Web by identifying the main idea and selecting supporting details, including the animals’ meeting in the barn to suggest new words for Charlotte’s web. Students revised independent and dependent clauses and practised combining clauses to create complete sentences. We also had fun unscrambling sentences to strengthen our understanding of sentence structure and ensure our writing makes sense.
Students also planned and wrote their own problem paragraphs in their narrative, with a focus on using conjunctions to connect ideas, strong action verbs to make their writing engaging, and adverbials to add detail about how, when and where events occurred.
Preview:
Students will write the resolution and conclusion of their narratives. They will also compose compound and complex sentences, focusing on revising sentence structure and identifying and using independent and dependent clauses.
🧠Knowledge Rich
In Knowledge Rich, students have been revising their understanding of democracy and learning about how voting helps people have a voice in decision-making. We explored how to vote, where we can vote and the different types of elections, before learning about preferential voting. Students then participated in their own mock election, voting for an extra classroom activity from options including extra recess, free drawing, free-choice reading, a class game or no shoes. We counted and discussed the votes together, giving students a hands-on opportunity to experience how an election works and understand the importance of having their voice heard.

Students will review and consolidate their learning from this term’s Knowledge Rich unit on Modern Democracy.
➗ Maths
In Mathematics, we have been learning to tell the time to the half hour, quarter past and quarter to, as well as to the nearest five minutes and individual minutes. Students have been developing their understanding of how the hour and minute hands work together to show different times. We have also created our own clocks to help us practise and demonstrate our learning. Students have enjoyed working with a partner to make different times and drawing the times on blank clocks.
Preview:
Students will be learning about 3D shapes and their features, including faces, edges and vertices. They will explore and identify 3D shapes using everyday objects from their environment.
🌿Wellbeing
Last week, students participated in their first Circles session of the term, focusing on the importance of kindness. In RRRR, students have been exploring positive coping strategies and this week learnt strategies for recognising and managing angry feelings.
