Year 7 Connections Camp Reflections | Meet the Team!
Earlier in the term, the Year 9 Literature students had local author Madison Hovey come in to speak about the process of writing, editing and publishing work. The Year 9s had read her piece of speculative fiction, Tiny House Prisons for Felons and Other Neanderthals, as part of their unit on Contemporary Short Stories. Madison was met with a variety of questions about the inspiration and intended message behind her story, and was impressed and heartened with the depth in which the students had engaged with her story.

On Wednesday 13 May, our Year 7 students travelled to Melbourne Museum to celebrate the conclusion of their Ancient Worlds Humanities unit and gather inspiration for their cross-curricular Humanities and Italian project.
Students were immersed in the world of Ancient Rome through the ROME: Empire, Power, People exhibition, where they explored hundreds of artefacts and primary sources while learning about daily life in Ancient Rome. The exhibition brought history to life and gave students a deeper understanding of Roman society, culture and power.
Students also visited the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre and explored the First Peoples exhibition, building on their studies of Ancient Australia and making important connections to future learning about Aboriginal cultures, histories and perspectives.
Other highlights of the day included visits to the Our Wondrous Planet exhibition, the 600 Million Years gallery and the Dinosaur Walk, which sparked curiosity and excitement across the group, and links to future studies in Geography and Science.

Camp. It was amazing! It was so much fun doing a wide range of activities and spending lots of time with my peers and friends. The activities we did were water slide, river sledding, flying fox, riddle roggaine, 9 square, archery and rock climbing. Overall, the best activities were the water slide and river sledding but they were all great. We also did night activities like the talent show and the night walk (which was a really steep mountain that we had to climb). My time at Forest Edge was so fun and I really enjoyed Year 7 camp.

It started by me getting up from bed about to leave for camp. I got ready into the clothes I wanted to wear. When I was finished getting everything ready, me and my parents put my bags in the car, then we were on my way to the school. As soon as I arrived I saw my friends and I went to them and we started talking. After that we went to the auditorium and we were all excited for camp!
When we left we got on the bus, I was sitting next to one of my friends. Once we got there, I was sooo excited to find my cabin and who's in my cabin but then everyone got told that we wouldn't find our cabins till after the first activity I didn’t mind it was just one activity.
After everyone finished eating we did our first activity which was a scavenger hunt. You had to run everywhere to look for hints with a partner or a group.

We went to camp and my group did the zip line first which we were all excited about but we had to walk so far to do it! Then we went to archery and I won then I got two desserts. Then we went to see our cabins. It was good because I was with most of my friends.

Year 7 Camp was so much fun! The way to camp on the bus was around an hour and a half.
When we got to the camp, Forest Edge, we unloaded the luggage and got a tour of the camp. And then we went to our first activities. My first activity was about finding riddles all around the camp. It was fun because I was in a group with my friends.
And then we did the flying fox right after the first activity.
It looked a bit scary but it was much better when we got to get on the flying fox. It was more calm and the view was very nice.
And then after the activities we got to find out what our cabins were. I was in a cabin with Carter and Gael. They were both of my best friends so I knew I had the best cabin. And then later we had dinner and we had lasagna. It was alright and not that bad. After a bit we got our free time and we went for a night walk and it was very cool because my legs were tired going uphill but my friends were with me.
Then the challenge was going back down.
I nearly tripped and it was very funny but none of my friends got injured.
And then after we had hot chocolate and it was not that bad. And then we went to sleep, getting more rest for the next day.
Day two was my favourite of camp because we got to do water activities.
We did water slide and river rafting.
River rafting was my favourite because we got to swim on the river with swimming boards.
