Strengthening Positive Classroom Expectations – SWPBS in Action

This term, our continued implementation of the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework has focused on strengthening Positive Classroom Expectations and communicating the  importance of Regular School Attendance.

We continue to maintain a focus on ensuring students are attending school and their classes. Regular school attendance is essential for student learning, wellbeing, and long-term success.  Attending school every day helps students stay connected to their learning, build positive relationships, and develop consistent routines that support achievement.

In line with Department of Education expectations, parents and carers have a responsibility to ensure their child attends school every day that it is open, unless there is a valid reason such as illness. Even occasional absences can lead to gaps in learning and make it more difficult for students to keep up with their peers.

Across all learning areas, staff and students have been working together to build consistent, supportive and engaging classroom environments where every student can succeed. Our Positive Classroom Expectations provide a clear and shared understanding of what successful learning behaviours look like. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating these behaviours in meaningful ways each day.

Students are showing they are ready to learn by:

  • Arriving to class on time with the correct materials and equipment.
  • Settling quickly and beginning learning tasks promptly.

    Students are demonstrating respect by:

  • Listening attentively when others are speaking.
  • Using kind and inclusive language.
  • Respecting personal space, classroom property, and shared resources.

Students are actively engaging in their learning by:

  • Contributing to class discussions and activities.
  • Working collaboratively and supporting their peers.
  • Valuing and acknowledging different perspectives and ideas.

Students are building resilience and responsibility by:

  • Staying focused on tasks and completing work to the best of their ability.
  • Persisting when learning feels challenging.
  • Asking questions, seeking feedback, and striving to improve.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students are embracing these expectations and contributing to a positive and productive learning culture. By continuing to explicitly teach, model and recognise these behaviours, we are supporting all students to thrive both academically and socially.

Additionally, we encourage all families to prioritise attendance and support their child in arriving at school on time, ready to learn. If your child is experiencing difficulties attending school, we strongly encourage you to reach out so we can work together to provide support. By working in partnership, we can ensure every student has the best opportunity to succeed. Finally, we thank our families for their ongoing support in reinforcing these positive behaviours and helping us maintain a consistent approach to learning.
