What a fun and busy term we have had this term in Grade 1/2! Some fun things we have been up to this half of the term are:

Text Study

In the last few weeks of this term, we have read The World's Most Pointless* Animals. We have looked at the purpose of information reports, the features unique to this text type, and how the author used humour to present facts.

We used our understanding of the structure and purpose of information reports and discussed what the pink fairy armadillo and the sea urchin were, had, and could do. From these prompts, students then wrote their facts and annotated their pictures.

Discovery

This term, we have been exploring how the weather affects our environment. In week 5, we had an incursion with Hands-on Science. Students participated in a variety of experiments related to our discovery topic and had a great time!

Following this, we have been exploring how different types of clouds create different weather and how this weather affects us and our environment. We have looked at four different types of clouds and completed hands-on learning with a 'storm in a jar' experiment that demonstrated why rain happens and how floods can affect our environment.
